Fear No Evil
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 03:32 AM by NanceGreggs
Right now, there are powers that be in the Republican Party who are living in fear. They are afraid of you, the American voter.

They fear that you have had enough of the lies, the deceit, the subterfuge that has marked the past eight years of the Bush administration. They fear that you are about to vote them out of office, out of the positions they have used to seize unlimited power and line their own pockets and that of their cronies.

They lose sleep these nights worrying about the fact that you have noticed the inequalities their policies have created in a nation founded on the concept that all men are created equal. They toss and turn, fretful that you have realized the American Dream is beyond the grasp of the American worker, while Big Business rakes-in the profits generated by your toil as your wages stay stagnant, go down, or disappear altogether while your job is shipped overseas.

They’re afraid that you have had a bellyful of promises that are never kept, empty rhetoric that rings more hollow with every telling, and the offer of inaccessible carrots held out on sticks that keep moving further away as you struggle to compete on a playing field they have rendered unequal.

They literally shake as they realize you are on to their schemes: the tax breaks for corporations that are making record profits at the same time they’re outsourcing your job; the tax-cuts for billionaires while you struggle to survive on a paycheck that buys less this week than it did last week, and will buy even less next week, and the week after that.

They scurry around like rats, afraid that their own fear-mongering is no longer keeping you in your place – a place where different religious beliefs, different lifestyles, different skin colors and ethnic backgrounds can be used as a wedge to divide you from your fellow citizens, your fellow world neighbors, your fellow believers in the concept that what is right, what is just, and what is fair should prevail over all other considerations.

They are paralyzed by the fear that you have finally awoken to the dawn’s early light with a renewed sense that this is your country, and you will take it back.

Most of all, they cower in fear because you have the power to end the injustices, the unabashed greed, the destruction of our democracy, the shredding of our Constitution – and are intent on holding those responsible for treason against our nation accountable for their crimes.

For eight years, the Republicans and their presidential puppet, George W. Bush, have played on your fears. They have blamed their failures on everyone but themselves, and are now telling you that if you are being crushed by the consequences of their actions, you are just a whiner with no cause for complaint.

Their reign of terror is over. The people who taught you to be afraid are now the ones who tremble at the thought of your power, your influence, your ability to bring them to their knees and banish them from the highest positions in our country – not temporarily, but for all time.

This November, vote Democratic – don’t do it for Obama, or for a political party; don’t do it out of a sense of frustration or anger, or out of a need to exact revenge for what has been done to our country. Do it for yourself, because you are what counts.

Now is the time for you to remember that it is your rights that matter, your children's future that is of paramount importance, and your dreams that deserve fulfillment - and it is your responsibility to vote accordingly.

Just do it. Don't fear the evil that has infiltrated our once-proud nation; remind the evil that it's their turn to fear you.

Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 11:37 AM by Faith No More
Tom Delay didn't look very worried at the rnc convention the other night and in fact was given a heroes welcome. Carl Rove didn't look the least bit concerned either. McCain is now running either ahead of or in a dead heat with Obama in most polls. These assholes have a virtual arsenal of dirty/illegal tricks at their disposal that we can't even begin to imagine. They have been violating the laws of this land with complete impunity and they have no intention of stopping now. Never forget, the election that brought George Bush and his thugs to power was a complete and total SHAM and they did it not once, but twice!

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER underestimate these bastards!!!

12. It may be a case of fighting the last war.
In military history, the victors of one war sometimes lose the next, because the losers have had to move on to find ways to win. Success can breed complacency.

6. Unfortunately, They Aren't Yet Afraid of Jail
Even though many a GOP operative has been convicted, fined and or sentenced already, the majority believe they are safe from prosecution. Thank you very much, Pelosi.

When they start fleeing the country, then they will truly know the meaning of fear.

7. Nance Greggs hits all the right notes
This one is music to my ears. We have to remain disciplined with these themes and not allow Republicans to change the subject or frame things on their terms.

Here are some of my comments delivered to gathering of Democrats last night.

The prevaricating dissembler Karl Rove has engineered a great division in America for cheap political advantage. And for his efforts we are weaker on all fronts. The Republican strategy of dividing Americans by appealing to the worst fears and lowest instincts has run its course. The American people will no longer be hoodwinked by Karl Rove and his fear mongering. We deserve better and we are better.
John McCain embraces the policies of Bush, Cheney and Rove, and we can’t afford more of the same.

John McCain wants to give Paris Hilton more tax relief while at the same time rejecting the new GI Bill. America’s veterans are being betrayed by a fellow veteran who wants to be president, and we certainly can’t afford more of the same.

Six Gun Sarah Palin claims to have a direct link to God. She sounds like George Bush on Steroids. If this is a sign of John McCain’s judgment, then America certainly can’t afford more of the same from John McCain.

The war profiteers who have hidden their ill gotten gains in off shore tax havens like Hallburton in Dubai need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Treasury looting by any other name is still treasury looting. Some of our public officials have willfully stolen our tax dollars in the fog of war. We know some of their names quite well by now.

The crack pots who've seized the Republican Party need to be exiled to History's dust bin or worse, and am I glad to be on the same side of the equation as Nance Greggs.

8. Thank you.
The human brain is a machine that was built to experience the degree of anxiety needed to help our ancestors' ancestors survive in a dangerous world. Those same programs run through the machine today. But the same program that helped us reach today, has become a threat to our further survival.

Fear can be the worst enemy that an individual and/or group can face. All of the hatred and violence that saturates our culture today is the by-product of fear. Every tyrant throughout human history has exploited fear, in order to make the group of people they rule to forget their own low level of being, and to project their fears and hatred on some other individual/group identified as "the enemy."

Fear keeps individuals and groups from taking the steps necessary to move beyond their lower level of being, and to become fully human. The evolution of humanity is not to be found in the mechanical sense: we have moved beyond that realm. Human evolution is instead found in the evolution of one's consciousness, and one cannot evolve consciously when the ball & chain of fear and hatred holds one at those lower levels of being.

It is not a coincidence that the great Masters throughout human history have taught a common truth: "Do not be afraid." This is a central teaching delivered by prophets from Buddha to Jesus to Gandhi to King. Do not be afraid.

Nominated, of course.

False Evidence, Appearing Real

It separates us from the Universal Truth of LOVE and ONENESS.

We are living in interesting times getting to see this dichotomy played out in our national politics.

WE get to choose.

WE get to wake up.

WE get to create our reality and have our government truly be a reflection of the people.

Will we? Time will tell...

9. Whether the powers that be in the repub party are fearful is immaterial.
And at this point, I think it's debatable that they are. I agree that becoming rattled over them is futile and doesn't help anything, but portraying the repuke powers as cowering in fear from the voter is pointless.

Their reign of terror is over? Maybe. Maybe not. It depends on who wins in November. And they aren't paralyzed, Nance. They're fighting in every conceivable way to hold onto power.

Seriously, Nance, Obama should make you his press secretary or director of communications or something. You put across his message better than almost anybody other than Obama himself.

23. I did it!
I sent it to letters@kcstar.com. They specify all letters must be 150 words or under, but I sent the whole thing. Hopefully they'll see it as a possible editorial and contact me. I signed it with my name, address and phone number. If or when they call (I doubt if they publish anything without calling) I'll tell them you're the author.

25. Here is the reply I received from the KC Star:
Your letter exceeds our length limit. If you would like your letter considered for publication, please send a shorter version. Try to limit your comments to 150-200 words. Also, please sign with your first and last name or two initials and your last name.

Thank you for writing,

Julie Rehm | Kansas City Star | Letters Editor | 816-234-4474 | jrehm@kcstar.com | www.KansasCity.com |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, Nance, so do you want to make a shorter version and send it yourself? Seems I didn't sign my name right either when I sent the original version, as I only used the first initial of my first name.

Meanwhile, when I have time, I need to find out how one goes about getting a regular column. You'd be great at it.

16. Thank you once again, Nance! One thing I would add...
They have always feared our power, influence, and potential unity. It's one of the driving forces that makes them act the way they do.
They use fear to control the masses because fear is ultimately all they understand.
The fear they are so blatantly feeling now, as their methods lose their potency, is always there. We're just bringing it to the surface, making them confront it head on.
If they were wise, they would use this opportunity to face that fear, realize it ultimately comes from themselves, and work on overcoming it on a personal level.
Unfortunately for them, wisdom does not seem to be one of their common qualities.

Well, it seems that I have dropped the ball for being timely...

Too late for recommendations, alas...

But not too late for kicking this outstanding work once again!

Thank you!

You give me hope, Nance...

Thank you!
