Is it web-only, or is it in the print edition, where I suspect more people would actually see it?

2. Alaska has a great many social ills as well |
|
And many of the native villages are living without basic plumbing. Human waste is seeping into water sources and kids are getting ill from it.

3. Better the rebates go to the citizens of the state than the CEO's |

of the oil companies. I have no problem with part of my tax money going back to the citizens of Alaska for their oil. I do have a problem with my money going to bulemic oil company CEO's

on a daily basis. Funny how the biggest violator of these Republican defined abominations is the red state of Alaska.

7. I'm sure it is simply factored in as a "cost of doing businesss" |
|
Maybe you would be paying 10 cents less per gallon for gas if they didn't have this "expense" to recover.

8. This is actually a great point for those independents and moderate Reps. |
|
who are shaky in their support of Obama like my father. I threw these numbers at him like this. Alaska receive $1.84 in federal money for every $1.00 taxed, they have no state tax, no state sales tax and every citizen gets an oil dividend of $1000 every year. In other words, they would rather spend your money than theirs.
Now before the Alaskans get upset at this phrasing, it really isn't meant to attack your state, it's meant to attack your states Governors stand that she's a reformer. AND it's a very effective argument.

11. I've seen various amounts |
|
But the consensus I got from the various articles was an average of $1000, depending on the year. $1000 is still a large amount, and it went a long way with my dad. Now I have to convince him that the "liberal media" is a myth...baby steps, baby steps

683,478 citizens of Alaska times $3200 = $2,187,129,600 divided by 136 million taxpayers in the US, that means that every taxpayer in the US gave an Alaskan about $16. In cash. I want that money back. Talk about welfare.
I expect Palin to give back that $22,000 of red state welfare her family of 7 gets every year. She can use a list of the donor states, start at the bottom and give that money to a charity that helps people in the state of New Jersey or whoever gets the least back on their taxes.
I think that federal aid should be tied to state income and sales taxes too. If a state decides to do without sales and income taxes then they shouldn't be getting any federal tax dollars either. Maybe a minimal amount for disaster preparedness and interstate road maintenance but no local pork projects.

13. that 3200 is a heating stipend for this state's people and the |
|
stipend from the permanent fund that our guys in the eighties had the foresight to start to bank against the future when the oil runs out and you guys down there go back to ignoring our asses again. You have resources. How come your states didn't have the foresight of Hugh Hays and Jay Hammond and help your citizens with a fund?
You should live here. It takes some villages $2100 dollars a MONTH to heat their homes and they have poverty up the kazoo there. We have the most minimal infrastructure of any state in the union, the least amount of roads and our ability to provide services to our people is among the hardest in the nation. Some places get their mail when the plane throws it out the window once a week and some people come to Anchorage or Fairbanks to buy their entire year's food to be shipped home because when winter comes, you are stuck.
We aren't like Colorado and New Jersey and a helluva lot of other places. We work hard in tough conditions (check out "tougher in Alaska" on A&E) and have to put up with shit that would bring most people to their knees. Its too bad you figure our dividend is welfare. Your state could have done the same thing but your politicians obviously have their heads up their asses.
Since many, many villages don't even have sewage and water, perhaps we can include that into the picture unless that is too much pork for ya. I loathe Palin with the heat of a thousand suns but this fund has nothing to do with her.

Oh wait, she's a republican, so she's "fiscally responsible" and "standing up for her constituents."
