5. I was just thinking about this |
|
McCain is such a rarity, a Republican who has actually served. We've mostly had chickenhawks who didn't want to talk about their deferments and cushy placements. They got the media to take off the table for them while attacking us. Let's face it. We Democrats have been running war veterans long enough that the GOP has had time to develop tactics to take them down. McCain is a rare creature that we haven't figured out how to tame yet. This looks like a giant step in the right direction.

9. I don't like it - comes off like another swift boat ad - with even less substantiation |
|
If they can throw in actual substantiated examples, that's fine. But the ad really is nothing more than one guy saying, "He's a hot head."

We can work on the facts, but in the meantime, let's get this man's story out.

|
All he has to come back with is, "I'm a POW" and the idiots will buy it. It backfires on us every time.
How bout Keating 5? How bout his veteran voting record? How bout his screwing education and the middle class? We don't need swiftboat garbage. How bout his rapture-ready VP choice?

No need to limit ourselves. Test the waters to see what is effective, then unload on them. We need to do what it takes to win this election.

I liked the closing line (Although I would have said McCain is not someONE I would like to see . . . etc.).
The buildup is not exactly, however, interesting or compelling to me.

18. Don't Like It = Swiftboat.. |
|
Frankly, our party has decried "Swiftboating" for the past 4 years.. and it would look VERY hypocritical for us to start throwing that around. Let's leave the Republicans to be the hypocrites here.. frankly there are plenty of other reasons to go after McCain.
Also - to add.. I do think that what the message is saying is CORRECT - PTSD is NOT a good disorder for a sitting president to have. I have to assume that most people realize this.. putting this ad out however isn't going to influence most who have decided for McCain anyway, but it could bring on a flood of POW's FOR McCain who will go on and on about how great of a guy he is under pressure, etc.
I say we leave it alone!

23. Swiftboating is making up and spreading lies about someone's record--this man is |
|
just stating his informed opinion on McCain. If an outside group wants to run it as a web ad to get emailed around, I'm all for it, as long as it's not attached officially to the Dem party or the Obama campaign.

21. It would be a mistake IMHO. |
|
The blowback on this could be immense. I do think there are POW ads that could be run. However, one man's opinion, however valid, would just create sympathy for McCain. He has a lot of fellow POWs ready to vouch for him and is shameless in using them. Hell, I want a POW ad run, but it better be much more sufficient than this.

26. Well, I would be very careful in attributing this ad to Democrats, lest |
|
people think that the ad is connected to the official party. Dems get unfairly blamed for everything MoveOn and Code Pink do--outside groups need to be kept separate from the DNC and Obama.

It is a group created by Howard Dean. Grassroots political organization founded by Howard Dean. Dedicated to recruiting, training, promoting and funding progressive candidates. I called and it is a spot they are thinking of running. I just wanted to be sure who I was dealing with.

sounds like his own puppy. Otherwise, it would be a DNC ad. I wouldn't attach the word "Democrat" to it--just call it an outside progressive political group.
