Palin-anian Economics

When speaking before voters in Colorado Springs, the Republican vice presidential nominee, Gov. Sarah Palin, claimed that lending giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had “gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers”, the crowd/her audience cheered. I don’t know whether I am to feel sorry for her lack of knowledge or the crowd’s stupidity.

I don’t boast of my knowledge of Economics because it is negligible but even I know that Fannie and Freddie are NOT funded by taxpayers. They are of private ownership. As Mcclatchy says. “The companies, however, aren’t taxpayer funded but operate as private companies. The takeover may result in a taxpayer bailout during reorganization.“

And she is the woman who is giving the McCain campaign a boost. Can it get any more desperate? Their numbers in polls have surged since she joined the campaign. Apparently, she’s attracting white women to her camp who are merely getting attracted because they can ‘relate’ to her as we’ve discussed before without any thoughts on her knowledge of how to run a country or even basic understanding of economics. RELATING, for some reason, is very important.

You know what though … if she and McCain win and burden young people and the next generation with even more debt than they already have to shoulder, I won’t be feeling sorry for anyone. American voters deserve it. It’s a democracy after all.
