Obama needs a gimmick.
That's what picking Palin was. McCain took a gamble that the American voter would fall in love with Palin because she's "just like them" and completely ignore the facts. He was right. Obama needs to do something similar. Staying the course isn't enough. He needs to do something to jerk the short attention span of the media away from the "Palin revolution" and focus on his campaign. When the media's focus changes, they'll bring a large portion of the public with them.

Now don't ask me what this gimmick would be. I have no idea. But really, if the voters can't think any better than children, then that's what they need to be treated like. Emotions, one-liners, pithy remarks, people "just like them"....that's what they respond to.

2. Obama needs to run a slick ad campaign:
1. Images of war-torn Iraq. A dollar figure of the war cost to date appears on the screen. An Iraqi mother cries holding her injured baby. The screen goes black, and these words appear:

The war in Iraq.
None of the reasons given for this war were true.

THE IRAQ WAR
Brought to you by the Republican Party

John McCain = George Bush
No change, just more of the same.

2. A woman with children in her car pumps $4.95 gas, and has a worried look on her face. Then she's at the grocery store, again looking worried as the register tallies up her grocery bill. Later, she's at home with children playing in the background, as she opens her electric and gas bills, again with a worried look on her face. Scene fades to black, and these words appear:

RECORD HIGH GAS, FOOD, AND ENERGY PRICES
What American families face today, brought to you by the Republican Party

John McCain = George Bush
No change, just more of the same.

3. A man is being told his company is closing the facility where he's worked for 20 years. He goes home to share this news with his family, and as he drives down his street, FORECLOSURE signs appear in the front yards of several houses. Scene fades to black and these words appear:

DEVASTATING LOSS OF JOBS AND HOMES
Life in America today brought to you by the Republican Party

John McCain = George Bush
No change, just more of the same.

etc., etc., etc.

The facts are bleak, the message about the GOP must be bleak as well.

11. "Don't mock the constitution"?
Obama's speeches are full of great lines, but he seldom distills them into effective soundbites. I though "Don't mock the constitution" would be effective. HE should also say "McCain's campaign is a lobby," referring to the ties and politics of his campaign staff.
