We need to suck it up and get to work. Who has joined on the Obama website? |
|
Who has committed to attending a meet and greet, fundraiser, dinner, whatever?
When was the last time you sent out an email outlining the problems with Palin or how Obama is the better choice?
Does everybody have a sign in their yard/window/doorway?
Does everybody have a bumpersticker?
Have you written to your local paper?
Do you wear a pro-Obama button (when appropriate)?
Have you DONATED?? Can you donate again..even if it is only $10?
Have you pledged to give time to canvas neighborhoods and register voters?
Have you made phone calls on Obama's behalf?
This is OUR candidate and OUR campaign. It is time to put up or shut up. Last time around I did not get fully committed to the Kerry/Edwards campaign. This time around, I will know that I gave it everything I could. We have a plan to donate a little bit each week. We can't afford a single big donation, so it is going to be a lot of little $30 donations. My kids and I have made buttons to wear. We are signed up to go to a local BBQ for Obama supporters this Sunday, there I will learn what else we can do in our area for the campaign. I have ordered a couple of yard signs. We have the bumperstickers. Any more suggestions? What else can I do? What can YOU do?
The thought of a McCain/Palin presidency literally turns my stomach. I am willing to fight them and fight them hard.

5. Take it a step further |
|
Register someone to vote who's never voted before. Get them excited about Obama. It takes 30 seconds and a stamp.

7. I have some neighbors I am going to approach. |
|
I know they don't vote. They don't take an interest. But they should, they really should. My husband and I are going to head over there over the next six weeks and talk and talk and talk about Obama and what his presidency could mean for them.

8. Personally, I find it easier to target young people |
|
But anyone who doesn't vote, should. And if you can get your neighbors onboard, then you've done more than any 30 second ad commercial can do.

12. Can you edit your post to put phone calls and canvassing at the top of the list? |
|
I appreciate yard signs and bumper stickers, but they should be near the bottom of the priority list. As an organizer, I'd rate our priorities as...
1. Canvassing 2. Phone calling 3. Hosting a house meeting to talk with undecided friends/neighbors 4. Bumper stickers/yard signs and other visibility.
Visibility is great to show that there is a groundswell of support. Everyone likes to be on a winning team. But it doesn't give us any idea of where we actually are in terms of support and where else we have to work to achieve our vote goals. Obama supporter meet and greets are great, but if they don't turn into a call for action and only serve as a forum for us to pat ourselves on our backs, it's not very effective for increasing voter turnout.
Those are just some of my thoughts. Thanks for your post.
