Meghan McCain: ‘No one knows what war is like other than my family. Period.

In an interview on the Today Show this morning, host Meredith Vieira asked Meghan McCain about Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) comments that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) “doesn’t get it” on issues such as the war. Meghan responded by pointing to her dad’s service in Vietnam and her two brothers who are currently enlisted. She then went a step further, however, saying that her family is the only family that understands war

2. Tell that to my dad
and thousands of others who served in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, and so on. In fact, a good friend of mine was in 'Nam and still cringes at fireworks shows. My dad told me he spent about a year getting drunk after returning from Korea. And yet these people don't understand war? Since there is no delicate way I can think of to say it, I'll say it like this; Ms. McCain, you are an idiot.

6. Oh okay. Tell that to the families who have lost their husbands/fathers.
I guess the women I read about who are raising children alone, after losing their husband in Iraq, don't know a thing about it. Or perhaps the families I've read about in which the husband has come home needing 24/7 medical care, and can never work again, but was in the National Guard, so they're pretty much on their own.. I guess they know nothing.

14. Cindy Jr. just slapped me, my family, and millions of other
military families in the face.

Sorry, you skank wanna-be. They rest of us DO know. My father served in Vietnam. flying 90-some hazardous unarmed reconaissance missions over enemy territory. You just insulted his memory.

Little bitch better never show her face around these parts. I'll slap her up good. Literally.

17. I think she was promoting her upcoming "children's book about her daddy"
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 12:53 PM by ErinBerin84
bleh. In the interview, she also said that she WAS fair game since she was actively campaigning for her dad, so I have no problem saying that it was a sloppy and careless statement. If she wanted to make a statement about her family as a "military family", she shouldn't have done it in such a shitty and generalizing way.

Wonkette also posted about the clip this morning.

Meghan McCain: My Family Of War Plutocrats Is Better Than Yours!

Confession: We are still too scared to review unemployed blogger Meghan McCain’s frightening new volume of children’s propaganda. Soon! Until then, watch this brief clip of Meghs on this morning’s Today show. First she barks that her father is “obviously a famous war hero” and then — and then! — she adds, “No one knows what war is like other than my family. Period.” O RLY?

18. Yes, because dropping explosives on people's heads from a plane makes you a great warrior!
UGH! McSame's "war experience" consisted solely of dropping bombs on people while he safely flew thousands of feet above them. He was shot down and taken prisoner only because he was a crappy pilot.

REAL warriors look into the faces of the enemy.

But then, when Dems run REAL warriors for Prez, the Rethugs mock them and suggest their decorations weren't deserved.

God, I hate Republicans! Low-life balls of rolled-up s**t.

I was born during his second war tour, and spent a little time myself in The A Shau Valley during his THIRD war. My mom didn't get much sleep for a very long time. Fuck off, Meghan.

34. My Pearl Harbor Survivor grandfather (R.I.P.) thanks you, Meghan.

:patriot:

He was never the son of an admiral. He went to the Air Force to be a mechanic. He ended up spending his 19th year one December morning getting blown out of his bunk and down the stairs thanks to Japanese bombs. Had he been in the wrong place at the wrong time, I wouldn't be sitting here typing this today. He later flew missions in Europe and the Pacific Theater.

I never really talked to him about WWII, and it wasn't until I talked to an IWV recently that I fully grasped why. There's no nobility or badge of honor when it comes to the horridity of war. There are only ruined lives, nightmares, PTSD and sadness. I only wanted to see the happy side of Grandpa and I'm sure he felt the same way. So it was best just to leave it like that between us.
