Conversation with a fellow gay man -- he thinks Obamas are evil -- how can this be?
Here's part of a chat I was having with another gay man -- trying to get to know him, and considering going out with him and such. It's a rather jarring opinion he makes about Barack and Michelle Obama after discovering on my MySpace page that I very much support Obama. Take a read...

Where in the heck does an attitude like this come from? Note that we're both in Louisville, Kentucky, a somewhat progressive area in the regressive state of Kentucky.

3. McClurkin.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of leftover anger from McClurkin.

I'm not angry at Obama about it anymore, I've moved on. But I still don't find him completely trustworthy when it comes to LGBT issues.

However, he's light years ahead of McBush and Mooselini.

While I can somewhat understand his lack of enthusiasm about Obama, surely SHE must have him running scared?

I would think that Palin would galvanize the gay vote - to vote against HER.

38. I have lots of empathy for closeted folks. Imagine what it must be
like to have been raised fundie and to feel you cannot be what you are. If I could hug them I would. If they would believe me, I'd tell them that everything is okay and that they CAN be themselves. As it is, they have been browbeaten and brainwashed and made to feel shame, or "less than."

As a mom, I know how much different their lives could have been if they had just been brought up in a truly liberal family that loved and supported them. And for those of faith, just think of what their spiritual lives could have been if they had just been brought up in a congregation that is loving and welcoming.

Ok. Off my soap box now. :)

Besides, this poster was talking that "anti-Christ" crap. That's a right-wing smear on the Obamas. This guy was either a plant or a right-wing fundy.

42. You'd think, huh?
I'll tell you what I think Gay Republicans real problem is. They are raised in conservative families and environments, so coming to terms with being gay in itself is a huge thing for them. It involves an even bigger break from all they have known than it does for for liberals. So also accepting that all they have been taught about political and social issues is also wrong, and breaking from their backgrounds in that way too, is just too much.
To put it in a phrase: "Mom and Dad, I may be gay, but at least I'm still Republican!"

22. Obama is FIRST to mention his gay & lesbian brothers & sisters in acceptance speech -
According to David Bender - Air American personality who has been in politics since Bobby Kennedy's campaign, who is himself gay, and a true friend of Gore Vidal. David said he was very moved.

"I know there are differences on same-sex marriage, but surely we can agree that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters deserve to visit the person they love in the hospital and to live lives free of discrimination."

The Human Rights Campaign is strongly pro-Obama -> http://www.hrc.org/

If your friend is Democratic leaning but had his heart broken because Hillary didn't win then give him the facts to replace his vague feelings of discomfort with Barack and Michelle.

If he is Republican or Independent then try doing so anyway. I would think and hope that log cabin Republicans would be willing to give Obama a shot during this election.
