National polls the week after any convention should be taken with a grain of salt. |
|
Even ours. I suspected Obama would not sustain his 8 point lead nationally. It just wasn't going to happen because convention bounces are only temporary. The same thing is already happening to John McCain. Rassmussen has it tied, after McCain took a slight lead yesterday and Gallup's numbers have stalled at 49-45. That is the first time since Thursday that McCain hasn't increased his lead over Obama. Now it's still too early to tell if this will continue, but I'm thinking his lead shrinks tomorrow. It's quite possible Obama actually polled better than McCain Monday and if he does it again today, he'll cut into the lead significantly.
The point? There is no need to get upset over polls at this point in the game. It's like packing it in when the opposing team scores the first basket of the second half to go up by two. So they're up two, it doesn't mean they're going to win. Well we just entered the second half of this game and McCain took a slight lead, but there is still nearly two quarters left to not only regain that lead, but open one of our own. It isn't over and declaring defeat just a week after the start of the Republican Convention is pretty ridiculous.

1. Also, depends on the poll. Some now Obama back in the lead... |

I think perhaps gallup and zogby lost their reputations a long time ago...
Gotta look at a lot of polls as well as state polls.

2. Gallup was close in 2004. |

So I'm not going to dismiss their results. Zogby, though, uses the flawed online polling and I don't buy it nearly as much.
