Does anyone believe that McCain now beats Obama among white women by 12%? |
|
Supposedly, in August, Obama was leading McCain among white women 50%-42% (according to a 9/5-9/8 Washington Post/ABC News poll) and now TRAILS McCain 41%-53%. I call BS. There is NO WAY that could be true while they're supposedly in a dead heat. :eyes:

42. This is why I don't believe in the polls... |
|
it depends too much on the pollster, and how the questions are asked. This poll is taken among "white working women" right after the media have saturated the nation's tee-vees with Palin clips, instantly dropping ANY coverage of the Democratic Convention. The Palin clips are ALL lies, but that little nugget is never mentioned - they're too busy fawning and drooling over Palin's wonderfulness. Even if the poll and the timing weren't pre-loaded, the sick media coverage would tend to affect the outcome. Just as intended.

there needs to be more polls of the same to know. I think it's appropriate to take a wait and see attitude on that one. Several pundits today were doubting it - saying if the swing were that extreme the national numbers wouldn't be just tied, McLame would be way ahead.

Well, I am sure that there are some people somewhere who actually believe that McCain now beats Obama among white women by 12% - I mean, they've been told to by A POLL. Those people, though, I would venture to guess are either not too bright or delusional, or possibly both. These are the same people who believe that Sarah Palin was chosen for her piercing intelligence, her command of foreign policy, her economic acumen, and her maverick qualities.
Oh, you meant do I. No

I think that they are trying to get some uninformed women who never vote or don't know the issues to think that they are apart of some type of movement with women...I don't trust the polls however I don't believe that all of a sudden women will just change from Obama and run to McCain just because he chose a woman if they are that stupid they and their daughters deserve what they get...
If it did happen these would be the same women running to a real womens movement for some help once Mcpalin took away their right to choose...

50. No, but I believe McCain leads by about 4% among white women |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 04:12 PM by Awsi Dooger
That's the logical area. I'm not locked into current polling as opposed to common sense.
Look at this in relation to previous cycles. Clinton won white women by high margin. Gore lost that group by 1%. I think it was 48-47. Then, post 9/11, Bush exploded his advantage in 2004, high single digits.
Obama's big edge edge among white women made no sense in relation to 2006. I looked at that demographic closely all year in '06. In a heavily favorable climate of a second term midterm with Iraq in disaster, Democrats figured to win white women for a change. Wrong. Even in that atmosphere, Republicans won the white female vote by 2%. I was stunned, and deflated. It meant there was still 9/11 pull, white women security conscious and favoring the GOP.
So translate to 2008. Obama does not lead by anything close to our generic edge in the 2006 midterm. If he's even with McCain he probably trails among white women by 4-6% or close to that. Assuming Obama retakes a small lead, I would expect the gap to be closer to 2-4%.
We can make it up elsewhere from '00, a fraction here and there, but white women are the single most important voting block. I've posted that for years. We ignored it in the primaries and Obama was content to ignore it in the VP choice.
