Women Against Palin http://womenagainstpalin.com/

http://womenagainstpalin.com/

It was the night after McCain announced his running mate, Sarah Palin, and I
could not sleep. I tossed and turned all through the night. I was so insulted by
the idea that this woman, who stood for so much of what I am against, was
their best attempt to gain my vote. Earlier in the day, I had spoken to my
mother, a retired schoolteacher, and my grandmother who were also alarmed
and disheartened by the choice.

When I woke the next day, I realized that I was so upset because I felt
voiceless. I thought that there must be more women like myself, my mother
and my grandmother, so I decided to start a group online where women could
make their voices heard. That morning I started WAP.

I have little experience in doing something like this before. I was raised in a
small Indiana town of around 13000 where liberal seemed like a dirty word.
My parents, both of whom were teachers, and my grandparents were always
very pro-union and mostly progressive though. In my summer after grad school
I briefly worked as a political field organizer in Chicago, where I also
witnessed the Obama 2004 senatorial campaign. After the election though, I
moved back to Indiana. Now, I am a 30-year-old midwestern art teacher. I live
in Indiana and commute 40 minutes each way to teach art to groups of giggly,
goofy k-5th graders. I own my own house and usually spend the weekends at
the home store trying to fix whatever minor problem pops up. I love my country
as much as Sarah Palin and I started this site to express that she does not
speak for me!

If Palin does not speak for you, please http://www.womenagainstpalin.com/Action.html">join me.

Their Agenda Against Women

* McCain voted against The Equal Pay Bill for
Women. He said women ‘need education and
training’ instead.

* Palin wants to outlaw abortion in every form,
including for victims of rape or incest.

* McCain voted against the family and medical
leave act, making it harder for women and men
to take time from work to care for loved ones.

* Palin cut special needs funding in Alaska by
62% yet claims to be a special needs advocate.

* Palin wants to teach creationism in the schools,
making it harder for our teachers to compete
with up-and-coming nations in science education.

* McCain opposed spending to prevent
unintended and teen pregnancies.

* Palin does not believe that humans contribute to
global warming and she wants to take the polar
bear off of the endangered species list so she
can drill for oil in Alaska.

* McCain opposed legislation requiring that
abstinence-only programs be medically accurate
and scientifically based.

* McCain's health care plan will require that
benefits be taxed, the first time this would ever
happen in America's history. This will make it
next to impossible to pay high medical bills with
insurance benefits.

2. I would suggest focusing only on woman's issues.
I think you might get better exposure if you don't try and cover everything. If you can find all of the positions where McCain and Palin have been against woman's rights I think your site might be more effective.

4. People are hitting her hard....
Just got this email from another site;

Friends and compatriots,

We are writing to you because of the fury and dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce - on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate -that has a real possibility of becoming fact.

Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms. Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present or future daughters. To date, she is against sex education, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she wanted to ban books and attempted to fire the librarian who stood against her), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of real preparation to become the second-most-powerful person on the planet.

We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager, but solely as a rash, incompetent, and all together devastating choice for Vice President. Ms. Palin's political views are in every way a slap in the face to the accomplishments that our mothers and grandmothers so fiercely fought for, and that we've so demonstrably benefited from.

First and foremost, Ms. Palin does not represent us. She does not demonstrate or uphold our interests as American women. It is presumed that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket could win over women voters. We want to disagree, publicly.

Therefore, we invite you to reply here with a short, succinct message about why you, as a woman living in this country, do not support this candidate as second-in-command for our nation.

Please include your name (last initial is fine), age, and place of residence.

We will post your responses on a blog called "Women Against Sarah

Palin," which we intend to publicize as widely as possible. Please

send us your reply at your earliest convenience-the greater the volume of responses we receive, the stronger our message will be.

Thank you for your time and action.

**PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY! If you send this to 20 women in the next hour, you could be blessed with a country that takes your concerns seriously. Stranger things have happened.
