Wow- Had a first today. Called to cancel cell phone, Operator asked who I was voting for.
To protect this wonderful lady I'm not going to say the company, we had to cancel our sons cell phone (He's using mine now) due to financial pinching. His contract was up and I was calling to confirm.

When she asked why I was canceling I sighed and said "Well, with how tight things have been for everyone- Every penny counts now doesn't it?"

She got really quiet and said "Ma'am...who are you voting for?" I told her I'm an old R turned Indy and I'm hands down voting for Obama. She said She was too, that she had voted R all her life but McCain scared her to death with the economy. She said she just changed her registration a few months ago, and she doesn't think she's going to vote R ever again. That she thinks alot of people feel that way but because of family and friends (We are in NC) they are afraid to speak up.

I just wanted to salute the bravery of this woman to speak to me, knowing that the call was recorded (Customer support) It's people like this that will help carry this election. I actually cried when I got off the phone.

America is NOT stupid, not matter how much the RW tries to convince us we are.

luck and hope for you too, honey. Its getting tough all over. a guy i work with has asked me about obama and he is a sort of goofy working guy that no one would expect was as smart as he is and he's leaning obama. :) He also likes to tell people Obama is going to win, he truly believes it just to stir the pot, the little cutie. :) I love working people.

5. A HUGE K&R!!!
Wow! Can you imagine the level of overall anxiety she must be living with in order to dare to ask such a risky question? I think it speaks volumes about what is really going on across the land.

21. maybe pretending you were for mccain all along, too. As a former repub, I am sure she has
their talking points and "reasoning" down so that she can disguise herself as one of them pretty well...

Or maybe just really, really gutsy and HEARTFELT.

8. "Why do you think Bush is finishing his second term?"
Um, chicanery, 'legal' and otherwise, of all sorts in Ohio in 2004?

* sure as hell didn't legitimately win Ohio in '04!

14. I didn't say that Americans weren't dumb...
I said that * is finishing his second term because the Republicans stole Ohio through numerous means.

Dumb or not, we didn't elect the evil fucking bastard in 2004, or 2000 for that matter.

16. No argument there.
Had Americans not been so overwhelmingly stupid, the election never would have ben close enough to steal in the first place.

9. I have another for you
One of my hubby's friends and colleagues has always voted republican, but,, he's never really paid any attention (He lives in MO.). So for the past 6 months or so, hubby's been talking to him, just dropping little things into conversation like, did you know that Obama wants to give us a $1000 energy rebate? When talking about high heating costs. Just little things like that. Well, his friend has now taken a bigger interest in this election. So, hubby was curious as to what he might think after watching the republican convention and asked him. His response? "All the did up there was LIE! Just lie after lie after lie and such hatred!"

Guess we can put him on the list of converted!

Keep it up! Subtlety is sometimes the best approach with some out there.

12. Hello ((Neighbor))
It's rotten all over, but we've been seeing this coming. I'm glad you're opting for hope and change. There are a lot of good folks who are willing to grab hands, stand shoulder to shoulder, even dry the tears and understand.

We've been there, and we're still there beside you.

17. The part of your story that gives me hope is
"she thinks a lot of people feel that way but because of family and friends (We are in NC) they are afraid to speak up. "

I know a lot of people who are quietly going to vote for Obama, but who do not put out yard signs, or discuss politics much in public.
It's a Southern thing, having to do with the value of getting along with people and not ruffling feathers.
It is not fear as much as it is politeness, the southern emphasis on getting along.

Took me years after I moved to the South to realize that what people don't say speaks as loud as what they do say.
I have a feeling the South may not be as red as people think.

18. Maybe she was leaving her job soon
You know - your last day of work you take a 2-hour lunch, thinking "what are they going to do, fire me?"

Maybe she had already given notice or been laid off, and figured "why not?"

22. Was in a meeting with a couple in their mid 40s and we were talking about their

401k plan and I was asking them how it was doing and every time the husband complained about what was happening with his investments the wife had a faux sneeze and you could hear her say 'Bush'.

This never used to happen. People are not only getting more pissed they are getting more vocal about it.
