I don't think that Palin will have the intended female/mom solidarity effect
Early this evening, ms mitchum and I went to our old neighborhood to see if our missing cat had wandered back there.
Anyway...met the young woman(approx late 20s,WASPy, w/a 3 yr old child) who lives in our old place. During our conversation we complimented her on her Obama yard sign. She told us that although she was a registered voter, she hadn't really planned on voting in this election
UNTIL
Palin was placed on the ticket.
This woman was furious that it was assumed women would like Palin just because of her gender. She saw right through the ruse.
She even said that the republicans had women who were more qualified than Palin like "that woman in Texas" (Hutchinson)
She also thought it was "trashy" of Palin to put her son "in the public eye when he had so many problems" and to "drag her pregnant daughter into the spotlight" and "that poor baby with Down Syndrome"
Granted, this was a very small sample, but this woman is exactly the type of apolitical/uncommitted "mom" that the McCain campaign is trying to sucker.

Bonus: She also doesn't think the governor of Alaska can really relate to the rest of the country because "Alaska is just so different"

Extra bonus: it looks like the cat has been showing up there.

3. When she was a tiny little kitten she sounded like someone tuning a theremin...
so we named her Clara
after theremin virtuoso Clara Rockmore :)
