Chris Matthews Bit The Juicy Worm Tonight
After tonight's airing of the Service discussions with McCain and Obama, I watched Rachel Maddow's program. She interviews Chris Matthews.

At one point she opened the topic of Bush on 9/11. Matthews went off on a lengthy rant about how Bush blew his chances of having a united country. Blah, blah, blah. Bush listened to the neocons and went into Iraq and more blah, blather and spittle. Rachel gave him all the rope he wanted.

And then Rachel lowered the boom. Isn't McCain one of those responsible for getting us into Iraq, Chris? Chris, you had him on your show on 9/11 and he talked about invading Iraq.

Chris laughed and asked if it wasn't Michael Ledeen - one of those wack jobs. At which point Rachel starts reading off dates and quotes of McCain talking about going into Syria, Iraq, Iran and on and on.

And she ended with McCain on an aircraft carrier saying "Next stop, Baghdad!"

So Chris just said he cuts McCain slack because he and his family serve(d) - not like the chickenhawks.

And then he congratulated her on how well she researches and for her new show. Goodnight Rachel.

How I wish she could have just replied "Goodnight, Gracie."

Tweety - You've been had. And I'll add - by one of the best. Watch your back, blondie.

6. Michael Ledeen was keeping a very low profile back then
I'm sure Chris knew exactly that the only time he ever spoke with Ledeen was at that luncheon he talked about. He really tried to wiggle out sideways but Chris was a big fat fish dangling from Rachel's line and he knew it.

Every day I like her tv show more and more. I bet she got a phone call from Keith tonight. Maybe to congratulate her on a job well done covering the issues. Hee-hee.

21. You can watch her show online the following day!

Unfortunately they break it up into clips and you have to watch an ad for each clip, but it's worth it to see her kicking @ss!

3. Oh SHIT! I only caught the last part! I missed it. I love that woman.
I pray that Obama really underlines this during the debates.

John McCain started advocating war with Iraq before GWB did.

7. that was great!
She listed the dates that John McCain had said immediately after September 11th that he wanted to go after Iraq, and Chris finally said "Oh...maybe you're right. good research." Ha! And McCain may never have "held the fact that Chris didn't serve in the military" against Chris Matthews, but he did against Obama when Obama DARED to call McCain out for not supporting the GI bill. I love Rachel.

14. I'm picturing Tweety on an IV tonight
He's going to need some recovery time.

He's either going to invite her on his show or maybe try to go back on her show to stick it to her on her turf. Yeah, maybe hit her with some of those dazzling film references.

those of you who watch the cable news to get some intellgence added to the mix in the form of Rachel Maddow joining msnbc where KO has had to hold it down.

18. You're welcome, zidzi
I've been letting it marinate tonight and worried that it would be a major dupe. But I wanted to give Rachel some props. She was so subtle that I my head snapped over from the computer monitor to the tv across the room.

You know he'll want to get back at her. But he better tread lightly.

Hopefully, you can catch it on You Tube were great moments usually wind up. I think we're going to see lots of Rachel over there in the year ahead.

17. Tweety was ok with that exchange, IMO. He was impressed. He's trying to be less partisan....
having lost the plumb job of anchoring the debates and other official events because of over-partisanship and bickering with co-hosts.

So he's trying to "analyze," which is his job, and his opinions are okay, but it sounds to me like he's trying to reign himself in somewhat. Which is fine. His bias towards Obama is still evidence, which is fine for an analyst. Esp. since I'm an Obamamama. :-)

20. I think he's going to try and engineer another exchange
He seems so competitive. Remember when he and Keith would go back and forth with the film references? That made me want to go in and separate them with a "Boys, now boys!". And I thought I'd pass out when Keith offered Chris a glazed doughnut during one of the Primary debates.

Anyhow, I look forward to a rematch, ... erm ... another exchange between Rachel and Chris. :D

34. Everybody was pissed that MSNBC pulled Keith and Tweety off election coverage.
I was jumping up and down over the 2-hour progressive block with Keith and Rachel M-F on MSNBC. They will be important voices this election. Rachel especially is going to give the opposition something to cry about. She is going to tell the truth.

Happy.

36. Nice thing is Keith did everything to help her
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 11:17 PM by Jake3463
People sometimes bash Keith on here but he did everything in his power to help her learn the TV ropes and get her own show. Alot of people would be threatened by someone as good as her stealing their thunder. Keith is a class act for helping her develop and letting her shine. Its a tough business and Keith didn't worry about how two liberal commentators in prime time would effect his career.

38. yes he did. KO put her on the map. When she
was simply a pundit she would often get talked over and treated dismissively by both tweety and Scarface--not to mention bullmoose buchanan. Keith always treated her with the respect she deserves. While I don't like his penchant for enjoying clips of animals in unfortunate situations, he is a real class act with women.

37. Tweety has always been under-prepared.
I've wondered if he is perhaps not computer literate enough to get up to speed. He's what -- 13 years older than Keith. But his preparation has always been shallow -- there are always things that everyone who reads Kos or DU would know that he doesn't know. And then he says, surprised, "what's your source for that??"
