People I know tell me I don't really have a stake in this election...
I'm 50, have a disease, a condition really, that is incurable, no kids, no nephews of nieces, nothing that ties me to the far flung future.

But there is something that all my friends are missing; I love my country.

It is purely for the love of what this country can actually stand for, that mythical city on the Hill that Ronnie talked about in the 80's. All though it wasn't his city that I was thinking about, it was the city that was envisioned by Jefferson and Adams, Monroe and Madison, Henry and Hancock, yes and even Hamilton. It was strengthened by Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt, FDR and Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson. Survived Nixon and Reagan and the two Bushes. It was a city that Clinton aspired to but never quite made it.

So here we are, with all that history at stake. How can anyone truly ask me why I get so fired up about politics? 3

My question to them is always the same, why aren't you more fired up about politics?

2. They think you don't have a stake in this election!
That's BS, pure and simple!

It doesn't matter about your health or lack of children or any of that...

You are an important person who has made many contributions to our society, and so you matter!

And you do love your country, as do most of us...

And you have discovered, because of your own political work, that you can make a difference in our history!

Look at the work you're currently undertaking!

That will make history, I just know it!

The people who know you just don't get it, do they?

Nope.

But you do, and you always have, and you always will.
