Joe is going to have to walk a careful line, cause the woman is a walking "kick me" sign
and she's so damn... mockable.

He's going to have to pretend to take her very seriously at the debate, be gracious, act as if she's not completely out of her mind, and occasionally, very lightly swat her down.

The best strategy is to let her sink herself.

The risk is he can't be seen as bullying a half wit.

1. You're a poet and didn't know it.
If Biden can just answer questions as if he's in a one on one interview as opposed to debating an opponent, Palin will take care of the rest. :)

4. Would it be rude
if the people in the audience on our side all wore t-shirts emblazoned with "In what respect, Charlie?"

8. I want to wear one that says, "Uhh, Charlie, what's 'hubris'?"
He used the word "hubris" and she looked like she'd been mentally tasered. Of course, she looked like that through most of the interview, so maybe it was just my imagination.

2. Sir, you do disservice to half wits by your comment...
Perhaps you should refer to her as a quarter wit or better still, to avoid any further disparaging remarks to half wits, eighth wits...

10. I hope he throws her own anti-woman record at her
Charging women for rape kits, no abortion rights even in the case of rape or incest, cutting funds for Covenant House (which houses and counsels teen mothers), opposing equal pay rules...he needs to get specific about her wretched policies and not simply rely on his own mastery of the issues.

14. Yep. Otherwise the media will frame it like they did in 2000.
You know, Gore's "arrogant" sighs vs Bush's down-to-earth responses.

and show off his knowledge in a confident and Not an arrogant way.

He should show the world his great energy, composure and that terrific smile.

17. He'll be fine, methinks...
Seems to me that those who are most nervous about men debating women are men who don't think too highly of women.

I think Biden, in the abstract, respects women just fine. Assuming I'm right, I'm pretty sure that anything he "brings at her" will be about the same sort of thing he'd've brought at a man.
If an examination of the tone and text shows similar lines of attack/ disagreement to anything he's done in debate with a man... then no sensible person will call sexism.
I'm not too worried about Biden as far as real sexism.

The real worry is that he might pull his "punches" too much... though I gotta say, after her performance, I think the real worry should be that he not take her seriously enough... I mean, there's the off chance that she was taking a dive or something.
Or maybe she really is just a beauty contestant who's had some luck and is now in over her head. (hard to believe she's a good enough actress to have pulled off the incompetence card so convincingly).

In the end though, I think not worrying about it... let Joe treat her with all the respect due a fellow person on the stage... and make a point of keeping a straight face when she answers questions (a mistake I fell for in a traffic court case once upon a time... judge really held it against me)... and then answer coherently when the time come.

If I'm wrong, and 52% or more of the electorate wants a spazz for president... well there's nothing that coherence can do about that.

It's a democracy. If the majority of the country is retarded, it's only right that the country should be led by an old psycho and a mouth breather with dimples.

20. I've never ever seen Biden come across as a bully....
he'll look at her and smile as if to say "there there, maybe you should have been brushing up on world events and political policies instead of going out and blowing all those moose and wolves away."

He's the perfect one to take her on. He will look like the elderly, almost father like statesman while she will come across as an inexperienced, petulent kook.

25. No.
I'm afraid your strategy calls for Biden justifying her presence on the stage by pretending she's one of the gang. That would be a mistake.

She's not a serious candidate, and has absolutely no place on a stage with Biden, McCain, or Obama, much less all three.

If he gets the opportunity to point out what a insubstantial speck of quasi-political dust she is, he should take it and put her, and us, out of our collective misery.

than she is, a thousand times more knowledgeable and a much better person?

Only in 2000s America. Up is down, good is bad, bad is good, liars are virtuous, people who are smart and tell the truth are evil.

:sarcasm:
