Sarah Palin made a huge gaffe during her first network interview yesterday. She was clueless about the Bush Doctrine. Interviewer Charles Gibson had to correct her after she misstated it. When Alan Colmes brought up Palin’s mistake on last night's (9/11/08) Hannity & Colmes, guest Rudy Giuliani and Sean Hannity falsely insisted Palin got it right. Giuliani suggested that Palin should be excused because Wikipedia got it wrong, too (which it didn't). Hannity, of course, blamed the left and then said Palin had answered "perfectly." With video.
In Part 2 of a two-part interview with Giuliani, Colmes said, “In an interview tonight with Charlie Gibson, (Palin) was asked about Bush – George Bush’s doctrine, which she didn’t know about, anything about. Had to be told by Charlie Gibson that the Bush doctrine is pre-emptive strike.”
“Not on Wikipedia,” Giuliani answered. “Wikipedia says that the Bush Doctrine is ‘irresponsible,’ some kind of irresponsible war monger.”
Fact check: I found nothing of the sort in the Wikipedia entry.
“She didn’t know what the Bush Doctrine was,” Colmes continued. “Doesn’t that concern you? That a possible president could feel that way?”
No, it didn’t. Giuliani said, “If you look at that answer, I think she had a pretty good understanding of what President Bush is trying to do, what President Bush is trying to accomplish.”
