I just saw 2 new Obama ads: "Change" and "1982"
Supposedly Obama's camp was coming out swinging today. The gloves would be off. They would confront the McCain camp's attacks. They would confront McCain head on.

Obama's going to point out that McCain had nothing to offer on his own, on his own record, so he stole Obama's "change" mantra and turned into a gimmicky slogan, surely.

Obama's going to point out that McCain's message just 2 weeks ago was ...well, it was so weak that I forget what it was.

Obama's going to point out that the McCain ad about the child sex ed consists of lies..points him out as a lier, right?

Obama's going to swing out that McCain is no "reformer," and that that word being used by McCain is laughable, since he was a major player for 30 years in the Washington insider game, right?

Obama's ads are going to relegate the McCain 2nd banana status back to 2nd banana status, where she should be, by not making ads about HER, right, and leave that to the 527's?

Except for the last thing I listed, Obama's ads do none of these things. He points out, as usual, that Obama is the "real" change agent. Yawn. He points out how long McCain has been in Washington and how out of touch he is. Okay, that's effective for the youth vote, I guess. But it's not nearly as strongly worded as it should be.

Where's the strength? Where are the strong statements? The passionate belief in YOU'RE right, and THEY'RE wrong? That McCain is using "change" as a gimmick only? It's not there in these ads. Just not there.

If this is their idea of coming out swinging, well....I guess I don't have to say the conclusion, do I? Whoever is running the campaign for Obama right now needs a rest and a retooling, and maybe some fresh input from someone. 'Cause it ain't happenin'.

1. Then you need to contact the campaign and tell them what they are doing wrong.
Offer them your expertise, since clearly they are incompetent fools.

2. I'm wondering if Axelrod is still with the campaign or what.
This "1982" ad is the dumbest fucking thing I've seen in a while. And the change ad is fine, except for the fact that Obama shouldn't be defending the Change argument because I thought he has owned that for 19 months!!!

Is Valerie Jarret giving more than her two cents worth of advice right now? I know Axelrod didn't come up with today's strategy with these ads. IS he on vacation or working on another race for someone? I do believe we need some fresh people in the mix.

3. Agree. Anyone that disagrees can keep sticking their head in the sand.
This is just 'more of the same' - like Kerry 04' all over again.

7. Well, if it's every shown, I guess I will. I wonder where it's being played, 'cause it's not here.
But I live in TX, a red state. And it's not being played by the media.

27. Time's The Page has the script of 'Lobbyists." Video coming soon.
John McCain: “It’s over. It’s over for the special interests.”

Announcer: Wait a second. John McCain’s chief adviser lobbies for oil companies even from Russia and China.

His campaign manager lobbies for corporations outsourcing American jobs.

The campaign chairman he picked last year — a bank lobbyist.

If seven of McCain’s top advisers are lobbyists, who do you think will run his White House?

John McCain. We just can’t afford more of the same.

5. The ads suck
1982 will drive Obama's negatives up almost as much as McCain's because it comes across as snarky, and we've heard Obama say the same things he says in the change ad a million times.

Sorry.

28. This is not the time to be going after McCain on his computer skills.
I'm disgusted with the campaign right now. I can't believe this is the best they could come up with at this point in the campaign.

6. The "change" ad actually gives the impression that it's Obama who has stolen McCain's slogan.
Not the reverse.

Many people haven't been paying that much attention to the slogans and key messages, or wouldn't remember. I think it's important that it be pointed out that McCain doesn't represent change, that he just stole the slogan Rovian-style because what he had to offer wasn't winning.

21. It's all about 'man' hood now - Possible ad:
People who have the time, curiosity & intelligence to investigate issues have already made up their minds - Now it's about causing controversy and hitting McCain where he lives: 'Is McCain a real man?' & "Is he a chicken?" have to underlie the message.

Once Palin reappears beside McCain, something like this might work:

"Dick Cheney has been holding George Bush's hand for 7 years. See where that's got us?
Now McCain rarely shows up unless Palin is holding his hand.
America needs a president who can stand on his own two feet and lead the world."

The repubs understand it's all about imagery. Whining about 'they stole our message' is a losing strategy.

10. The 1982 ad is probably the most pathetic political ad I've seen
I'm pretty pissed off that this ad actually made it to the airwaves. It starts off on a good note, showing McCain in 1982 and gives the impression that some things have changed since 1982 - but then it goes off on McCain for not knowing how to e-mail or use a computer, something that a lot of people in this country can relate to (especially the biggest block of the populace that actually votes).

It's unreal, it really is. It comes across as elitist and smug - which makes the important parts like McCain knows nothing about the economy and admits it, easily forgettable.

Advertising 101 must have been a class that the ad team missed. I find it hard to believe that Obama would have approved this ad.

18. Even if they don't, it's out there and it'll get plenty of play by McCain
I'm sure McCain's ad team are hard at work with it. It's a gold mine for them. I wouldn't doubt that we see a response ad this weekend.

17. I think you're missing the boat. This ad is what you put out to get the media's attention
This will get them talking. It brings to the front how McCain can't even use a computer. This has to be talked about now. It may not help in a place like WV. But in NC. The people thinking of voting for McCain are saying "WTF? He can't send an email?"

19. Will those same people turn out to vote though?
This is a bad move - you don't insult the people that actually do vote and these are the same people who will probably say "I can't use a computer too well myself".

I might be missing the boat, but that's a boat that's going to hit a giant iceberg once it starts out. I hate to be a downer, but I do marketing and advertising for a living and this one just doesn't fly.

22. Yeah and McCain and Palin insulted community organizers
I'm sure they are saying, "I'm a computer organizer myself"

This is nonsense. This guy is running for President. If he can't use a computer or send an email. Thats not good. Even a person who can't use one, knows in this age, its neccessary.
