5. I see a bunch of complaining about the new Obama ads that have come out. |
|
I'm not going to complain about the ads because I'm not the target audience for them.
"These ads suck!"
"The ads aren't harsh enough."
"I don't like the ad going after McCain for not knowing how to send an email."
"We're doomed!"
"This campaign is reminding me of Kerry in 2004. We're fucked!"
Maybe, just MAYBE the ads play differently to people who don't follow politics 24/7 like we do here. Just a thought.

6. No, you're wrong. I know a good ad when I see one. I know a so-so ad when I see one. |
|
I know a boring ad when I see one.
McCain is getting away with:
Lying about Obama's supposed sex ed bill, in a TV ad. No ad response by Obama camp.
Stealing Obama's "change" mantra and turning it into a gimmicky slogan. No ad response by Obama camp. ("Here ya go....steal my change message. That's okay with me.")
Making his campaign all about his second banana because he has nothing to offer himself, he was losing when it was all about HIM, McCain. No Obama camp pointing this out.
Snarking that community organizers don't have actual responsibilities. No Obama camp ad response.
Instead, the ads are nice, but are about....Obama represents "real" change. Okay, that's nice. Been said before. And before. And before. Can always hear it again, because it's true. But not the sort of ad that wins presidential campaigns when the other side is barraging you with negative ads containing lies.
The other ad points out that McCain is out of touch, lives in a different century. That ad is actually okay. It's aimed at the youth vote. But doesn't he have the youth vote already?
There's nothing in those ads to get the undecided or independent middle America guy/gal to vote for him. Change? That middle America guy now sees BOTH campaigns saying they are change agents. So they cancel each other out (unless someone points out the other is using it only as a gimmick, and started doing so just 2 weeks ago).

8. It's a little disingenious to imply that all of us who aren't enamored with the ads are "concern bot |
|
Seriously - I don't have a problem with the lobbyist ad, but the 1982 ad is a mistake. It's insulting to people who don't consider themselves computer literate which is far more than many of us here are willing to admit. It makes McCain out to be far more "common" than it shows him out of touch - plus it gives people something to relate to him about. It's a ready made homerun opportunity for McCain to fire back about perceived elitism. If its directed at younger voters, there's a problem with that - their voting record is the lowest in our populace, we are counting on something that is a unproven and unreliable commodity - and we don't do that by denigrating the part of the populace that has the highest percentage of voter turn-out.
I do this shit for a living. This is a bad move.

10. They come in droves whenever it appears that Obama has scored a point |
|
It is their purpose in life. Their pride cannot even contemplate the possibility of an Obama win, so they try to create the reality of a loss even when reality itself points otherwise.
There are many posters on this board who you will never see again after November 4, since their pride will not allow them to show their faces after they've been definitively rebuked.

23. Uhhh...It's great that you were defrosted from cryostasis for this election, but I have to |
|
break it to you...it isn't 1960 any more.
Ads WILL win or lose an election for you. Ask John Kerry what happened to him after the Swiftboat attacks. I am not saying anybody needs to panic, but pretending like all we need to do is register voters and stick to the issues isn't realistic.

For me? Registering voters is a way better use of my time. Information is contagious, and spreading that is way more valuable then any tv ad. And that goes way beyond this election. As I say, you either spread the disease or you spread the cure. I wasn't around in 1960. Are you referring to tv?

Very very annoying. The race is close, its tied. What if we were 5-10 points behind? Their heads would explode. Tired of the should have picked Hillary posts, the he is like Kerry posts, change has been taken over by McLame posts, etc. etc. etc. Nothing useful to Obama at all. Its going to be close as half the country is still Rethug. Never forget it.

24. Not all of us can be shiny happy optimists. |
|
By my nature I'm naturally pessimistic, bitter, and downtrodden. It doesn't mean I'm not fighting hard for an Obama victory. It just means that, after 2000 and 2004, I'm not willing to overlook the same ineffectual tactics for fear of offending those who thinks it somehow empowers John McCain.
The fact is, the more of us who register our "concern" now, the better chance we can influence the campaign to hit harder. And if it isn't necessary, if Obama wins this thing despite our "concern," then GREAT. We'll all be happy and none of this will matter.

other Democrats with bullying tactics, like calling them "concern bots" or "concern trolls". DU has always been a place where Democrats and Progressives (read liberals)could come and refresh each other or talk about their "concerns" in a respectful manner. We're all Democrats here, concern doesn't make anyone a damn troll. Mindlessly following along is not a Democrat trait.

Palin didn't do well, but she didn't make any disasterous comments.
Obama was his usual bland self at a sit down forum about a topic that is lame, at best.
Obama's new ads are weak, and not going to effectively respond to the attacks.
If this is your first election, you should calm down and respect the opinions of others.
If this is not your first election, what's your excuse for not understanding how disasterous it is to have Democrats who fail to see anything wrong with running a weak campaign down the stretch?
