This time its personal.
"Without privatization, I don't see how you can possibly, over time, make sure that young Americans are able to receive Social Security benefits." John McCain

Im getting to the age that I worry about Social Security benefits being available in a few years. Privatization of ANY government agency has proven to be toxic. Recent events prove that beyond reason.

Yes, the last 7 years has been hard on us. Cost of everything going up, up, up. My wages not just remaining static, but going down at times. So, its been personal for some time.

But this SS thing scares me. We cannot afford to allow McSame in the white house for many, many reasons, but this is one that hits Americans personally. I believe its a winner in the attempt to sway voters. Even Monkeyboy found it to be off limits. WE can use this stance of McSame's to our advantage. Use it every chance you get when talking to swing voters.

1. Simple Solution. John

Keep the social contract that we worked out in the 1980s. Then we raised the SS tax to create a trust fund. The govt. borrowed this money to reduce taxes on the rich for the last 25 or so years. Now the rich have to keep their part of the contract by paying higher taxes to pay down the loans from SS and keep the fund solvent. It's still been a good deal for them. After all, they have had a chance invest that money that they should have paid in taxes for decades, so they should have gotten a pretty good return.

Oh, BTW, how's the privatization of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae been working out for you?

2. My parents live in a retirement community.
My mom mentioned that she was surprised to discover that everyond she has spoken with in her complex is supporting Obama. I suspect that concern for the future of Social Security would be one reason, along with the frightening consequences of inflation. It's scary to be on a fixed income in these economic times.
