It doesn’t matter that we don’t like that it’s called the Bush Doctrine. Most of what Bush did in terms of policy names as absolute bullshit (like the policies themselves). The point is that whether we like or not, that’s Bush’ doctrine and thus became known as the Bush Doctrine.

I certainly knew exactly what Gibson meant and so should have Palin. It is absolutely ridiculous that someone running for office in that capacity would not know what the doctrine was and in fact react as if she heard the term for the first time.
I’m guessing because she did hear for the first time.

Her reaction should have made jaws drop nationwide.

2. It was a softball... a simple open ended 'do you agree with" question
I am sure he never considered the possibility that she would not understand what he was talking about.

4. Exactly. I'm sure he was astounded, and had to think on his feet. "OMG! She doesn't even know...
... what it IS! I CAN'T tell her, can I? I mean, isn't it news that she doesn't even KNOW?"

The idea of an interview is to try to reveal the interviewee, for better or worse. If he "helped her out", that would have accomplished nothing to that goal.

Future Vice Presidents (or Presidents?... GULP!) of the United States do not need reporters to define commonly used foreign policy terms to them. And this "term" is not just a "commonly used term" she may have missed. It is the widely accepted term for the most unique and controversial aspect of 8 years of Bush foreign policy. From a foreign policy perspective, it is what this entire election is about.

5. No, it forces her to acknowledge if she agreed with W, but it also exposed she doesn't even know
what the hell the doctrine was to begin with.
