Obama, just now, quoted Ailes - media covers 4 things - 1. Polls 2. Scandals 3. Gaffes 4. Attacks

He just finished a Town Hall in New Hampshire. He is completely focused on the economy. He explicitly spelled out his tax cuts v. McCain's tax cuts. His entire opening speech was focused on explicit details on the economy. I'd say the people yelling that he needs to focus on the economy - message heard.

He took questions, as usual, and one was about getting the press to cover the issues. That is when he quoted Ailes re there being four things the press covers - 1. Polls 2. Scandals 3. Gaffes 4. Attacks. That does essentially summarize the press although I think CNN has been trying to cover some issues. I have seen some great breakdowns of the Obama v. McCain tax plans which I love because it shows what a liar McCain is and shows how Obama is focused on the middle and working class - up to $250,000 - getting tax cuts.

Obama said that the debates would be a time when people will have an unfiltered view of the candidates on real issues.

He also, in response to a question, went into a detailed description of McCain's "health care" plan which would be a disaster and a huge tax increase on people, along with making many more people uninsured.

So, I think Obama is really focused on the Debates and the Economy. Just thought I'd give a heads up to those unable to stream his town-hall.

1. He's focused on the economy
He talked to Bill yesterday.

"It's the economy, stupid."

5. He's been talking about the economy
It's been his focus at most town halls since the primary ended unless there was another special topic like education.
I don't know how specific he got today but I've seen him compare and contrast the tax plan and health plan.
I always hear TV pundits saying "Obama should be talking about XYZ" and I'll be thinking they should find out what he IS talking about before they talk, they are way behind him.
The problem is the people who know it are the people who are there or who watch it. The press doesn't cover it.

What is it the press who follow candidates around are there for? Aren't topics like these the worthiest things to report on?

6. Exactly.
This insistence from posters that Obama isn't talking about "this" and isn't talking about "that" indicates that they are obviously only consuming the propaganda that the lunatic fringe biased media is feeding them. Watch the actual town halls or rallies, whether on CSPAN (when Congress isn't in session) or stream it from the news sites or CSPAN.

10. I know because I stream his townhalls all the time but this one was different. His focus and
commentary wasn't what his usual riff at the beginning of townhalls has been. It is definitely more detailed and "nuts and bolts". He even mentioned during the Q & A period how he had released an education plan earlier in the week but no one knew about it because all that was covered was lipstick.

I thought it was good. I think they are always good but it was a little different today and I thought I would let people know.

12. Thanks for clarifying. I use to watch all the
townhalls I could but recently CNN stream quit working for me. I have firefox 3 and when it quit working I updated all the players involved and the flash...
Drives me crzy, I loved watching them and just can't get them back, don't know why.

Anyway the point is that it helped that you clarified it was even clearer and done better than before. Thanks

7. Too bad that time is short - could compare Phalin to rock star, media coverage, etc. Turnabout is
fair play.

8. Media coverage of issues
I'm always amazed, amused, and angry when, the day after the election, the media do stories on "What will it mean to you and California now that proposition 4281 has passed?" Uh, why didn't you cover that question before the election, you dumbfucks?

9. Link? On what television channel will swing-voters & low-info voters see this footage?
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 01:59 PM by Dr Fate
He and every DEM pundit needs to go on Cable news TV shows and say this to their faces.

This is good red meat, but nothing guarantees that swing-voters & moderates who get their news from TV shows will see this footage. DEMS need to go on those TV shows and say this to their face, over and over and over.
