If it's a web ad, I'm cool with it. It will reach those who are tech-friendly, obviously, and would be more troubled by McLame's loser status.

If it's running on broadcast or cable, this may not be the way for Barack to endear himself to certain segments of the electorate.

1. I think it depends. Don't assume that people not computer illiterate will be turned off.
Some of the people I have met that are most worried about McCain's age are the oldest people. I met a lifelong Republican who is 73 and he told me he is really worried because if McCain's faculties are half as deteriorated as his he simply can't serve in the job.

By the same token I think many people who are not computer illiterate are aware that they are missing a very important skill and ability functioning in today's world. I don't really have an opinion since I haven't seen the ad but I don't thing it is a sure thing.

I just hope that the Obama campaign is using focus groups for the groups he is targeting before he is releasing all of his ads.

2. Excellent point. Either way, it doesn't deserve the concern it's had here.
I watched it. It doesn't even come close to insulting computer non-users.

And, the point re computers and emails is a lead in to the main point: he's out of touch and a thing of the pass.

I give the ad a C-.

All the concern at DU over this ad is, well, embarrassing.

:patriot:

9. Not true...the last twenty threads only included SEVEN exclamation marks
This one includes EIGHT.

Why can't you take the constructive criticism? Why, I ask you?

4. It ran here in Los Angeles, con't remember if it was on the radio or tv.
I think tv, but I was in the other room.

I loved it. It will definitely play well here. EVERYBODY uses computers and the internet here, even a lot of old folks.

5. i'll copy my response to every post that has a premise that the ad is insulting to 'older' people:
my mother is 82 years old...has a hell of a time getting her email to 'work'...struggles with her computer, etc...

her view is that she can DIRECTLY RELATE to not being able to easily function with the computer-machinery-world...

and she KNOWS, and will tell you this as often as you will ask her, that she does not want someone who cannot operate ABOVE HER ABILITIES becoming President of the United States...
