What Is This Plan of God Sarah Palin Keeps Talking About?

Sarah Palin talked about it again last night when Charles Gibson asked her a question about her statements that the Iraq War is part of a plan from God. She said that there is a “plan for this world”. Sarah Palin has even said that a fossil fuel pipeline in Alaska is part of God’s will.

As much as I don’t want to subject Sarah Palin to a religious test for public office, Sarah Palin makes it impossible to understand what public policy she would apply upon becoming President of the United States without understanding her religion. She has stated that she is, as Alaska’s Governor, applying the will of God. Palin also has indicated that she believes the ancient idea that world events are shaped by God, not by human beings.

Sarah Palin herself mixes her religious beliefs in with her political positions. So, we have to evaluate Palin’s religion in order to be politically informed. To do so isn’t a religious test for public office of the sort that the Constitution forbids, because Sarah Palin herself has made her religion the basis of the secular political discussion. Sarah Palin has signed up for a religious test - positioning her own particular religious beliefs as a qualification for the highest public office in the nation. So, the secular political discussion needs to include the vision that Sarah Palin would impose upon the public sphere.

So what is this plan of God for the world that Sarah Palin keeps referring to? Sarah Palin’s church - which she has attended as recently as this summer - the Wasilla Assembly of God, ascribes to a very clear set of beliefs about God’s plan for the world. That plan leads to a lake of fire.

Who will be thrown into the lake of fire, according to this plan of God for the world? All non-Christians and homosexuals, according to the Assemblies of God’s own official statements of belief, drafted by the church’s Committee on Eternal Punishment when Sarah Palin was a teenager.

The Assemblies of God teaches that this lake of fire is not a metaphor, but a literal truth. They teach that Jesus will watch over the torture of non-Christians and homosexuals - in approval. They teach that even those who repent after entering the lake of fire will not be allowed to escape. They teach that the purpose of the torment of the lake of fire is not to redeem souls, but merely to punish.

That lake of fire is the end goal of God’s plan for the world, as Sarah Palin’s church sees it. Find out more…

1. You know... "The Plan"... (wink, wink)
It's just code for "I'm a Christian fundamentalist whack-job sent here to make all you other extremists feel comfortable voting for McCain."

It's all about the fundie buzzwords.

5. raping the Earth while we turn everyone on it into Christians
Also making as many babies as possible so when the end comes there'll be more souls. Wiping out animals is a good idea too because it frees up room and energy for more of His Image to be squirted out.
