Why Isn't Hillary Taking on Palin? |
|
This isn't snark, It's a serious question. Can anyone explain to me why Hillary Clinton is not the right person to counterattack against Sarah Palin? Watching Rachel Maddow's new show last night, I twice heard Andrea Mitchell state that Hillary mustn't attack Palin. I couldn't fathom why Rachel would not deny this notion or at least ask Mitchell to explain the reason. Apparently we're just supposed to file this one under "Conventional Wisdom".
Why?
Someone enlighten me. Please

23. Not so much a problem for repetitiveness. It can agitate Hillary supporters, and |
|
just stir people up.
Lately there's been a bit much criticism and hang-wringing of democrats, Biden, Hillary, Obama ads, and it's not particularly productive.
Kind of like talking about the silverware on the Titanic after it's hit the iceberg.
If you really care what Hill is doing, you can probably do a search and find out, but I don't know how that's going to help us win.
Handshake?

3. A couple of good reasons |
|
1) She isn't running for either president or vice president
2) She would be accused of being jealous by the double talk express, if she did

4. I've asked the same thing but get attacked |
|
I think it's a fair question and that Hillary could do a lot of good if she really hit her. Unfortunately she's offered more praise than anything.

24. When has she offered any praise? |
|
Except for doing what any politician, including Obama and Biden, is supposed to do...be gracious and offer a welcome to the race through a press release on the day she was announced. Everywhere she goes, she says, "No way, no how, no McCain." Palin is on the McCain ticket, right? You said you got attacked, but I read the previous posts on this, and what you got was a very reasoned argument as to why she is not directly and specifically going after Palin. Do you really want to hear about Hillary snarking on Palin day in and day out on the television, because that is exactly what would happen, and on top of the silly season that the tv peeps are already focusing on, we'd have a good ole drummed-up catfight (although I hate that expression, because it's never described as a dog-fight when the boys are doing it! :)

26. Agreed all candidates praise eachother but then they hit eachother too |
|
Hillary appears to have done only the first part with Palin. I also think you have a point about the cat fight and there's no telling how it would play out, the argument against it is just as sound IMO. However, I would've liked to have seen Hillary at least sock her once or twice is all.

6. Sad but true reason: it would look like a catfight |
|
Also it would distract from the issues, which are the key to winning this election. Obama needs to show that he's the serious one with a better plan for running the country and that McCain has no good ideas. If this becomes a personality contest, Obama will lose. Americans just like Republicans more than Democrats.

8. Simple, really... Hillary isn't running against Palin... |
|
Biden should be doing this. It can be done whilst avoiding the sexist bull... I know that would be the next RW talking point.
Hillary is on a different playing field, having run for POTUS herself. She should go after McCain.

9. This has been asked several times in the last few days and the concensus is |
|
that the media would tout it as a catfight and it would dominate the news cycle and take the focus even further from the issues. I'm sure that Hillary's response to Palin has been in keeping with the wishes of the Obama campaign.

14. I've been wondering too, and this makes sense. But I'm wondering... |
|
whether Hillary could use the issues to attack Palin and keep the 'catfight' focused on the issues, rather than the woman on woman (yowza!) catfight?

Ignoring Palin altogether? I mean, she really is insignificant. She is going to shoot herself in the foot soon enough anyway.

20. Because it's what the republicans want! |
|
The want the democrats to go after Palin so they can keep using it to stay away from the real issues. Their whole tactic is to keep using Palin as a "victim" of sexist democrats who can't stand a woman on the republican ticket. It's crap, but as long as democrats keep on attacking her, it will work. They can't talk about the real issues, because they caused the problem! The have no plan, and if they can keep the message on Palin and how the "mean" democrats are attacking the "poor" little lady, they don't have to worry about the issues.
Obama is going after McCain and that's how it should be. McCain is the candidate, not Palin, and he is the one who will be running things. Obama is going to take "him" down, and that's the way it should be. Mc Cain is losing it, and we need to keep on him, and forget about Palin. People will see McCain for what he really is, more Bush, and when it comes tim to vote the majority will come to their senses. Attacking Palin, and making her a victim of sexism, will not help the race!
