1. Or even do ourselves in altogether. We need some "scary" ads imo.

2. Not only that
Editorials, news reports, etc from around the world have made it clear that the world will then move to marginalize the united States. We have become too dangerous and out of control for the world to tolerate our electing McCain/Palin

10. We need an educated electorate
& since so many don't have the time (or make the time) to source out accurate news, more than ever, we need our media to do it's job!

I've read a few articles that indicate that economists & some on Wall Street are hoping for a democratic win because they think it will be better for the economy. We're all about the money, so perhaps, if American multi-national corporations fear repercussion from their global markets, they will encourage the media to show McCain/Palin for what they really are & stop feeding the masses a bunch of lies.

Welcome to DU, Scytherius!

:hi:

5. Agreed. If Obama gets in, it will STILL be tough to stop the slide.
America is in trouble. Deep trouble, and we've been heading for this since JFK was killed. This is our last chance, the most important election in my lifetime.

6. A historian told me on a walking tour of Rome once...
I will never forget what a historian told me on a walking tour of Rome: The downfall of Rome began in (whatever-the-year I'm bad with years)... now mind you, citizens of Rome didn't just wake up one day to find that their city was declining, it just happened over many years.

The downfall of the USA has begun. Obama stands a chance of saving this country. If idiots in this country elect McCain/Palin, then it's complete, I utterly believe this country will be in decline. It will be talked about as the "decline of the American empire". I will not bolt to Canada immediately, but I already do not consider myself a "daughter of the US" after 8 years of Bush, and I will leave at some point, and pledge my nationality and allegiance to a new country before I am buried.

7. Which is why every single one of us needs to get out there and work
our asses off the next few weeks. I had a conversation with a friend today who works herself into tailspins regularly over little things so the big thing this election represents has her wanting to crawl into bed and pull the covers over her head. I literally scolded her for once and told her that if she does that and neglects to fight for all she is worth, then we will lose. Go fight now and hide in your bed if we are not successful. I refuse to give ground. I refuse to hand this nation to this pair of self-absorbed fanatics. I will not allow my grandbabies to be left a nation that is in shreds, one in which its constitution is a distant memory or serves as lines in advertisements. We are better than that.

Let's get out there and kick some tush. Volunteer. Canvass, phnonebank, talk to your friends and neighbors (even the Republican ones), do community services and mention Obama while you do (this can go far in associating his message with actual results), monitor voter registration and polls, register voters, and if you think of other tasks, add them to my list. Just get busy because we don't have time to hand wring or be fearful. We have much work to do now and even more after the election.

Over and out.

11. The sun is setting on America, regardless.
We've been at the zenith of global power for over sixty years; our relative power and influence have been in some decline for most of the past 20 years or so, and more so in the past decade with the emergence of China and India as global economic players. It is inevitable; the economic rise of America led in the fullness of time to the eclipse of Britain's global dominance (and Britain was probably the worse off after all was said and done for trying to hold on to the Empire as long as they did). So it will be with America; it has already begun. It is the afternoon of empire, and the shadows are lengthening.
