Colin Powell to endorse Obama ? ....
in 24 business hours ? ...Of course I just made that up, but it would be helpful, wouldn't it ?

I don't really like the lad all that much since he was on my TV waving around a vile of anthrax to scare me into supporting a war...but..I do believe a majority of Americans still respect the man.

This could help Obama on many levels, including national security, and securing moderate republicans, and ....

It would be irresistible for some republican talking heads to claim .."Powell only endorsed Obama because they are both black"

In the end it could be an endorsement that really moved some numbers.

1. I don't know - who respects him anymore, now that he sold out the country?

8. I think that would be magnificent. Yes, outside of us wonky types, he is respected.
I hope to hear of other endorsements from republicans that cannot stomach what Rove, McCain, and Palin are doing to the republican party.

I feel the same way as you do about the guy, but is there any way he might do it? One can hope.

10. I don't see it.
I can't help it, but he strikes me as someone who goes along to get along. He's not going to make any waves by endorsing Obama. I'd love to be proven wrong, but that's the impression I get from him.

13. There are a lot of republicans and independents who respect him
so yes it would help

However, if he doesn't do it soon, it won't be worth anything

If he doesn't endorse Obama, then one can only conclude that he supported the bush/mccain policies

Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 06:35 PM by jonnyblitz
I find it interesting you accuse the republican talking heads of possibly saying this if it were to happen but isn't this the reason you even bring this up, because they are both black? otherwise, what would even make you connect Colin Powell to Obama and start this thread? what makes you think of Colin Powell when you think of Obama or vice versa?

they accused Powell of just endorsing by skin color.

22. Powell is a moderate republican.
And it seemed he couldn't wait to jump ship on the Bush administration. But thanks for playing the race card so recklessly.

16. There are still many moderate republicans and independents who like Powell.
His endorsement would be

1. A poke in the GOP's eye

2. Ring strong with moderate republicans

the other DU threads claiming inside info to be released within 24 hours. And to discuss what Powell's endorsement would bring. Thanks for posting your opinion on Powell's endorsement....Oh wait, you didn't.

26. i would like it
if it were part of a kind of "former Republican foreign policy experts against crazy alaskan lady & crazy temper impaired candidates"

There are a lot of them out there. People in Reagan & Bush 1's adminstration who can't be pro McCain/Palin.

Now's not the time to fuss over the fact they're republicans.

28. A Powell endorsement would likely mean additional votes for Barack Obama.
I want Barack Obama to win. Therefore, I would be happy for Powell to endorse him despite his dastardly behavior in the runup to the Iraq war.
