What the heck is going on in Washington?
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/washington/election_2008_washington_presidential_election

Rasmussen has the state at 49-47 Obama. This used to be super safe, why the tightening?

Washington residents, clue us in on what's going on there...

1. Someone hyperventilating over one single poll?

:eyes:

Also, it's "likely voters". Look inside the poll specifics to find out what that means for each poll, because it varies by poll.

5. I figured out why it happened. Look at the graphic with the poll history.
Obama's support level really hasnt fluctuated, but McCain's surged eight points from two months ago. I guess the likely conclusion is that Palin did bring the Republican base back home to fall in line.

8. no it seems to be a trend in the the wrong direction
I haven't panicked yet but I'm starting to get nervous. McCain should have been defined and destroyed this summer when he was making all those gaffs, now he seems to be getting stronger. Instead of honoring him at every turn he should've been attacked. Wes Clarke tried and got thrown under the bus, the independent groups were silenced and look at us now, were fighting for our fucking lives.

11. Oh please. This pseudo closing is generated by the M$M to make it close enough for the GOP to steal
another Presidential election. Obama/Biden are doing WELL. The polls don't reflect it because the polls are skewed. ;)

13. Well Mf - I have been on this earth one half century, have served in the service and worked for
the Government. Let's just say, I have an inkling that the few ultra-wealthy people who "call the shots" for the M$M and Polling Corporations KNOW that they will fill their coffers (increased media consolidation) faster if there is a republican President. BANK ON IT ... sport ;).

14. Unfortunately, yes
I agree with what you are saying.

There are people on the Oregonians for Obama list that have "email panic attacks". It's one flipping poll people. One of the reasons may be the bump that McPalin got out of the convention. The next poll will likely show a larger margin.

Also as someone else said, Eastern Washington is heavily Republican (as is Eastern Oregon). It's possible that the demographics used for the poll were uneven.

6. Seattle is the main liberal haven up here.
There are a lot of stepping stone towns all over up here, and I was really surprised to find that there are a lot of people living on the outskirts of Seattle who are really small-minded and libertarian, if not outright wingnut. Even so, the liberalism up here is reversed from what it was in Salt Lake, except in Salt Lake, the liberals there are hardcore and we all knew Rocky.

You should scan the Seattle Craig's List rants and raves some time. Scary! I've seen a lot of Ron Paul stickers up here, and even more Obama's, but not a single McCain yet. Even saying all this, I am a bit dismayed. It shouldn't be this close. Time to bust butt this weekend.

17. you might be better off
looking at the poll demographics as compared to those of any previous poll. Given the way the rest of the polls these past couple days have been manipulated(even more than usual), its not unlikely its a matter of who they asked, not a matter of how the actual support is.
