Poll question: Rate Charlie Gibson's Performance
What did you think of the way Charlie Gibson performed as the interviewer?

Personally, I had extremely low expectations, but I thought he did a good job. I wish occasionally he would have followed up more and a little stronger, but I think he did a tough but fair interview

1. +B for me.
MUCH better than I thought he'd be. MUCH, MUCH better.

Mr.Gibson, I owe you an apology!

2. You don't owe him an apology
This is only a little bit of payback for his awful debate moderation in Philly.

7. Me too! I honestly thought this was going to be like a Hanity interview!
In all fairness, it wasn't so much that Charlie did GREAT but that Sarah did really bad! He didn't ask her ANYTHING that I wouldn't have been able to answer very capably, and I sure shouldn't be VP!

3. He opened the door to many points that the M$M has been
ignoring. For that I give him an A-. He could have delivered a straight puff piece. He didn't ask the tough follow-ups, but he set the stage for everyone else to. He said okay, enough of the beauty pageant, this is for real.

4. I think the question on homosexuality
should have had a follow-up or two. So I gave him an A-, because I was feeling generous. Maybe it was closer to a B+.

6. I gave him an A-. I was VERY pleasently pleased with the interview.
I had NO expectation of anything other than a gushing Sarah-fest.

10. Which is exactly what we got from the "panel" after it was over.
Could they possibly have puckered up more to plant kisses on her butt and made her sound like a leigitimate contender who just needs more "coaching" so that her lovable personality that makes voters warm to her can shine through again?

Screw her actually learning anything or knowing anything about the issues she discusses. The only important thing is that she be able to deliver her scripted responses in a way that doesn't look scripted, relaxed and with a beaming smile on her face!

Unbelievable.

9. A-, he did his job
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 10:04 PM by high density
He pressed her on the questions when the response was canned, generic, and/or incoherent.

11. And for that, I thank him.
It was so great to see him keep coming back to her again and again, trying to get his questions answered, only to be met with more bullshit, followed by an abrupt and rough edit.

12. He asked good questions but he didn't follow up
He should have made her explain why she lied about the bridge to nowhere, or explain what she was talking about when she said "cutting social security by finding efficiencies in the agencies", or any of the other ones. The lady had no idea what she was talking about but he kept letting her wiggle out at the end.

13. He could pass for a journalist, if he tried
I give it a C+. Adequate but not anything that could be called "hard hitting".

I stand by my earlier assessment. Those WERE the softball questions. Which made the results all the more troubling.

14. He scrubbed the interview to make her look less crazy and less stupid.
Any "reporter" that does that gets an automatic F.
