now that McCain is being called out on his lies...
he probably didn't expect the media and the Obama campaign to come out so strong so soon.

For example, Joy Behar sitting right next to him on a couch on live TV asked him politely why he is such a liar. He probably didn't really expect to find himself in that kind of position.

Then there's this excellent AP article on his lying:

http://www.mercurynews.com/nationworld/ci_10450897

(...)

While harsh ads and negative attacks are a staple of presidential campaigns, Sen. John McCain has drawn an avalanche of criticism this week from Democrats, independent groups and even some Republicans for regularly stretching the truth in attacking Sen. Barack Obama's record and positions.

(...)

"In running the sleaziest campaign since South Carolina in 2000 and standing by completely debunked lies on national television, it's clear that John McCain would rather lose his integrity than lose an election," Hari Sevugan, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, said in a statement.

(...)

my question is, what does he do now? Does he "double down" on his lying strategy, resign himself to wallowing around in the mud (no offense Sarah), or does he try to regain his integrity?

2. They Are the Likely Nuclear War STARTING Candidates

He'd do it in a fit of temper, she'd do it to bring on the "Rapture".

3. If lies cease to be allowed in this campaign, only silence would
come from the McCain camp.

5. From your link
"The strategy reflects a calculation McCain's advisers made earlier this summer — above the strenuous objections of some of the longtime hands who helped McCain build his 'Straight Talk' image — to devote the campaign heavily to disqualifying Obama in the eyes of voters."

That says it all. That's what they've been doing. And it's been successful.

I'd have no problem with what they're doing if they were telling the truth. But it's all lies.

Palin is in the same boat as Obama was -- an unknown waiting to be torn down. The nice thing about Palin is, you can just tell the truth. She has enough wacky things in her background, you don't need to lie at all. Just tell the truth. But use an approach similar to McCain's. Our goal is to disqualify her.

9. McCain will continue his lies. But now is the time for Obama to define McCain
in the minds of independent and swing voters as an out of control liar who no longer even realizes he is lying. This is a window of opportunity for Obama but it will not last long. Ads showing McCain morphing into Pinocchio would be nice.

10. Interestingly enough, Obama already defined McLame

This definition mortally wounded him so much that the repukes jettisoned the rest of their "safe" VP picks and threw the hail Mary pass. I still maintain that Housegate changed the whole game and the result was a truly bizarre desperation within McLame's campaign. The repuke response has essentially acknowledged that McLame (by himself), was finished, and this is underscored in the fact that when campaigning by himself, few will come to hear him speak, and a vocal group of Obama supporters can effectively run him out of town.

So the strategy was to put an inhuman zombie shield in front of him, and add to that all of the corporate-owned lunatic fringe M$M to act as sacrificial pawns to protect his mortally wounded ass. And although the "liar" label is truly the theme of his campaign now, it may be difficult to get that one applied as quickly given the out-of-touch McOpoly label is still strong in people's minds. Somehow a brand needs to be found to apply to the pair, as a pair, because the M$M will continue to support the lies and protect the shield.
