Janeane Garofolo was so awesome on Bill Maher tonight! |
|
I usually avoid sexist asshat Maher like the plague but when I found out Janeane was going to be on I had to watch. She put the smackdown on that idiot John Fund. She wouldn't give him an inch of slack to peddle his bullshit about Palin.

1. She was super good but made one huge mistake... |
|
she lumped all Republicans and conservatives in with the asshole sitting next to her.
Yeah, he was a liar and a dickhead.
However, there are lots and lots of well meaning Republicans and conservatives out there that will give you the shirt off their back. A lot of them just have a different world view and different values. Much of that is genetic and cultural.
Maher recognized she went too far. I don't blame her though, she's just mad as hell at the lies. We all are.
However, Bill Maher made the mistake of villifying the rural areas. Again, despite the voting history, there's lots of good people out here.
And just like Barack said, they distrust both parties, so they vote with their guns and their religion. And yes, they are BITTER with every right to be.
It's too bad Barack has gotten fucked over for telling the truth.

5. I didn't see the show but I think one mistake Democrats make is always parsing words |
|
Perhaps we need to stop trying to explain everything and add caveats and just get to the point. Anyone who plans to vote Republican after the last eight years deserves to be lumped into a group. I never hear Republicans stopping their rhetoric to add something nice about the small majority of Democrats that they feel are nice. I say give it to them straight and maybe they'll stop thinking we're all soft and wimpy.

23. What if I said that about ALL WOMEN just because SOME WOMEN are going |
|
to cross party and ideologic lines to vote for McCain Palin for the simple fact that they are voting for their gender identity?
It would be a pretty nasty thing to say, no?
The funny thing is that the liberals and Democrats could win over rural voters in a huge way if there was an honest and ongoing effort. However, when Bill Maher wants to villify the rural areas he does a disservice to the great cause of good.
And that's exactly what the RW smear machine wants. The culture war and the "god and guns" mentality is exactly what allows controlling elite to get re-elected.
People out here just get so damn confused and fed up they vote what they know and it's a lot easier for them to wrap their minds around guns and god than it is to understand exactly what a tiered tax plan is going to do for them.

|
You sound like Joe Scarsborough and I don't buy that argument.
I didn't see Bill Maher yet.
But I get tired of people saying Democrats are tenative, then getting upset when tough guys and gals go off. Republicans have no boundaries. Choose whether we should be respectful of haters or whether we can call them on their intolerance.

BTW I did see it, enjoyed Garrafalo immensely ( I always do ), but she's not perfect.
But on the other hand, if we had an army of women out there talking like her, I think it would bolster the embrace of the truth.
I still don't how people here can castigate me for saying she wasn't perfect. No one is perfect.
Being forceful doesn't mean being ugly and I still think there were 2 moments where her performance crossed over from forceful to ugly.

spending a few hours working (in an ER) with some "republican" co-workers. Mean to the hispanic patients who couldn't speak English, rude and condescending.. they carried their "meanspirited" talking points to work with them, used them against patients, and it was disgraceful.
Which I told them to their face. No democrat would have ever acted that way. And Janine was telling the truth..
We need to STOP parsing words.

but she got with it as the show went along - I especially liked when she countered the elite John Fund's smug warning, that perpetual Repub BS that we'll lose if we "keep it up", in criticizing Palin with a point I've been making for years - if that were the case Democrats would win in every election.

The guy wasn't arguing logically at all. He would lie outright, she'd call him on it, and then he'd condescendingly tell her that she was being a typical liberal.
It was very frustrating to watch. I thought for sure someone was going to slug him.

that's just not a "fact". It's an opinion.
And she said something to the effect of criminalizing conservative or throwing them out of the country. That's actually kind of a fascist way to think.
Again, she's just mad as fuck and I don't blame her. But she wasn't perfect.
I'm glad she gave that Fund dude both barrels, same with Bill. All that guy did was lie all night.

I never cared for Maher's idea of having a conservative on every show, as they tend to talk over everyone else and often ruin the show. Until Real Time, I didn't realize that there was a consistent pattern such as that regarding conservatives.

Fact finders have to sift through the surrounding atmospherics to get what they need to find. If it is mud, fine. If it is shit, fine.
For those who benefit from the mud and shit shifters, it makes no sense to act like those mud and shit shifters are untouchables. It's like saying to a butcher, hey give me the meat but I can't believe you cut up carcasses for a living.

when we were being sued for a half a million bucks by Michael Savage's people she hooked me up with Robert Greenwald who hooked us up with the ACLU, People for the American Way, etc to try and help us, and Janeane generously donated to us so we could get legal help (a DU'rs sister, a lawyer saved our asses) --
I just got a postcard from her a few months ago, heavily decorated with cute little animals, etc, extolling the virtues of the copy of my book I'd sent her, THE JESUS BOLT. She was looking forward to digging in and reading it, and wanted to add the conceptual metaphor of "The Jesus Bolt" to her lexicon.. how could I say no? :)
She not only talks the talk, she literally walks the walk. There's not a finer more honest person I know other than my wife, esp when it comes to being an empathetic, rational Human Being..
She's the greatest, and Kicked that fuckhead in the balls repeatedly. When she said it might be a good idea to put Republicans in Jail, she wasn't talking about ALL of them, for anyone to think that would be beyond the absurd.
She obviously meant the Crooked ones, the ones she was talking about, those at the RNC spreading Fear and Hatred, etc.
