Sarah Palin will get a send-up on the season premiere of NBC's 'Saturday Night Live'

Former 'SNL' head writer and star Tina Fey will return to portray Palin, who bears a resemblance to the '30 Rock' star.
Live, from New York, it's Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.

Fey, the former "Saturday Night Live" cast member and head writer, has agreed to return to the series Saturday night to play the Republican vice presidential candidate, the Daily News has learned.

The episode is the first of the season and will also include an appearance by Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama and Olympic swimming star Michael Phelps as guest host.

Buzz about Fey playing Palin surfaced almost immediately after the Alaska governor was tapped to be Sen. John McCain's running mate because of similarities in their looks.

"SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels said he was trying to get Maya Rudolph to return to play Michelle Obama.

Someone posted last night that CNN reported that Obama had cancelled his appearance on SNL, but I don't know either way.

5. Oh, yes!
This absolutely had to happen. Too bad Barack had to cancel, but I also understand why. He actually could have still come on and made a plea for people to help those affected by Ike.
