Now the evngelicals have this fervent belief that god is on their side, which is fine it's a free country they can believe as they wish. With this belief though they prayed for rain, an abundance of rain to appear at our open air convention. What transpired was torrential rain at the Republican convention. What must be conveyed to all the evangelicals that you know if there were prayers for rain and the DNC convention and all we got was th finest summet night with a light breeze and beautiful sunsets, who's side is their guy on. Now I know there are the atheists out there but we have to reach them in their terms because in a mass prayer movenment it would appear their saviour backed our side. Also would their god condone a side supporting torture if we are all god's children, some miguided but nevertheless from his flock. God has a D after his name, that's the meme.

1. Not really...
I have lived quite a lot in the South over my life about 3/4's of it.

The truth is that it's STILL the economy stupid.

That is how you win it.

3. Believe me I know it's that issue no doubt btu I talk on voice chat and logic isn't one of their ->

big things you have to reach them on their turf their turf is their faith God is a republican. If they were putting economy first clearly our side wins this no question, we have to relate how our side does carry out the human actions of Jesus. Now I know folks don't like this god talk but it's the only talk they'll understand simple fact. Go back to the McCain interview and watch how many times he mentions god it is no accident on their part, he knows he's not christian but he will play that card like a hustler cheating at poker.

I love this editorial

The New England Journal of Medicine

McCain and Obama Plans for U.S. Health Care Reform

Its centerpiece is a change in the tax treatment of health insurance. Currently, workers do not pay taxes on health insurance premiums paid by their employers.

Nobody knows how effective repealing the tax exclusion would be in controlling costs, but if it turns out not to be a magic bullet, the plan lacks other mechanisms for reliably slowing spending. Prevention, better care for chronic conditions, and enhanced competition represent aspirations rather than concrete policies for controlling costs.

It would deregulate the insurance market (Geez - deregulation has worked out so well in the S&L, Banking and Mortgage markets)

The McCain plan could consequently trigger a move from comprehensive insurance toward thinner coverage policies that shift costs onto sicker patients. Moreover, some employers, particularly smaller businesses, might stop offering insurance if the tax benefits of employer-sponsored insurance were eliminated. As a result, some currently insured workers could lose coverage.

http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/359/8/781

and here is the icing on the cake

"Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes. And my opponent can't make that pledge, and here's why. For the first time in American history, John McCain wants to tax your health-care benefits. Apparently, Senator McCain doesn't think it's enough that health care premiums have doubled, he thinks that you should have to pay taxes on them, too. That's a $3.6 trillion tax increase potentially on middle-class families. And that would eventually leave tens of millions of you paying higher taxes or losing your benefits. That's his idea of change." - Barack Obama, Sept 12, 2008

I honestly don't think so, they know how bad it is, they are suffering severely from a Republican economy, the would rather die than vote Dem.
Of course, not all of them, but some of them.

2. Obama doesn't have a chance in Tennessee, don't spend any money down here.
Gore couldn't even carry Tennessee, for God's sake. We can only hope there are smarter folks in other states.

6. You do know there was a lot of voting "irregularities" don't you?
My county switched from lever to vapor just in time for the 2000 elections. There was also voter intimidation, etc.
I think TN is going to surprise people. People here are fed up.

7. I lived in middle TN from 1996-2000
What part do you live in?

Rural middle TN was very conservative like these sterotypers make out the whole South to be but Nashville wasn't.

13. That's right. Nashville is a blue city in a red state.
These posts always make us feel like we're completely abandoned despite working our butts off to make a difference in our state.

19. Hmm.
Fairview? Nolensville? We have been lusting after land in Leipers Fork but that's might pricey. We have been thinking of buying some land and building a very energy efficient place from the ground up but haven't made a move yet.

20. Leipers Fork is gorgeous, but out of range of my pocketbook.
It's such a haul from Fairview to most things. :( We're toying with the idea of building again. Land is cheaper in Dickson County than the Fairview area, but even land in the White Bluff or Burns area is getting out of sight.

15. I'm sorry but I HAVE to pick your post to shreds.
I understand your point - but this idea that the south is full of christian taliban nutjobs is just false. I've lived in the south for nearly 50 years, all my life, and MOST people in the south are far from religious nutjobs.

Secondly, you post infers there are only two choices, either religious nutjob or atheist. That is just not so. The vast majority of Christians in this country, and yes even in the south, are decent people who go to church and pray and read Bibles that aren't interested in forcing anything on anyone else.

Thirdly, I know quite a few southern people that you would consider evangelicals that are solid Democrats, mostly due to their economic station in life.

Lastly, I live in freeper central, and I can tell you the christian taliban wing of the Republican party are the least of your worries. The worst of the worst on the far right are either fake christians, or they don't even bother. These are just greedy SOB's who got there's and FU.

What I'm saying is that people are individuals. Winning people over is a one person at a time proposition. No two people, even in the same group, have entirely the same viewpoint - and caring enough to find out who someone is, and what they want out of life. What they really want. This helps in finding ways to show the Democratic platform fits their needs much better than the Republican one does.
