Religious right "Values Voters" summit sells racist waffle kit mocking Obama...
Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 02:07 PM by JackBeck
blacks, Mexicans, Mrs. Obama

From http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080913/D9360EOO0.html">AP:

While Obama Waffles takes aim at Obama's politics by poking fun at his public remarks and positions on issues, it also plays off the image of the classic pancake-mix icon Aunt Jemima, which has been widely criticized as a demeaning stereotype. Obama is portrayed with popping eyes and big, thick lips as he stares at a plate of waffles and smiles broadly.

Placing Obama in Arab-like headdress recalls the false rumor that he is a follower of Islam, though he is actually a Christian.
On the back of the box, Obama is depicted in stereotypical Mexican dress, including a sombrero, above a recipe for "Open Border Fiesta Waffles" that says it can serve "4 or more illegal aliens." The recipe includes a tip: "While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?"

The novelty item also takes shots at 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry, Obama's wife, Michelle.

First off, this is THE religious right summit. Just to show you how ungodly, how un-Christian, the religious really is. Second, just imagine the outcry if we'd sold "Cindy McCain drug testing kits" at our big conventions. McCain and Palin are speaking at this convention (as is Obama). Are they going to be speaking out against this blatant racism, sexism and Latino bashing, or does John McCain only care about prejudice when it's a lie that helps him win an election?

It's just aggravating when it rears its ugly face.

As much as we make progress in this country, there will be those that continue to refuse to move forward.

Trying to halt progress and change is the backbone of the conservative movement.

25. We had a similar conversation about this last night in our home.
My guy had just got back from Cincinnati and his Christian parents said they could never vote for someone who was part Muslim.

This is what scares us about this election. But we got into a deeper conversation about how these Christians are afraid of change and will use any excuse they can think of not to vote for someone different because of that fear of change. All the time not even realizing that, even though they are 'good people', their reasons are based in racism.

According to their posted online schedule, his "appearance" is "pending confirmation" - as is Johnny McSame's and Punky McPalin's

So, I guess making shit up is one of FRC's "values".

20. Good....
I'd rather they be open about their racism than hide it.

Suddenly, in the last year, lifelong blatant racists have become all "politically correct," not saying what's on their minds. Instead, they created all the BS of "he's a muslim," the pledge lie, "there's just something about it."

BULLSHIT. They're racists and I'm calling them on it every time because, secretly, they're dying to scream it from the rooftops.

So, I say encourage them to be honest (that may be the only thing that side CAN be honest about any more). Let the rest of the citizens and world see the pathetic, small-minded, hypocritical asses out in the open for all to see.

They're racists and bigots and sponges who absorb the hatred of right-wing talk radio and Faux News because they haven't got a fucking clue how to think for themselves. It's easier to focus on "welfare moms" and "thugs" and "illegals" than to see who is really running this country and driving their own incomes into the ground.

It's easier because it's simple, and they can't handle anything that isn't simple.

GOOD. Bring it on, you racist, fundie (their particular brand of christianity...same as Palin's...also cloaks their racism) hypocrites who give Jesus a bad name.

Go ahead.

67. From what I can see, that's the dig at John Kerry alluded to in the release.
It's hard to tell, though.

41. Shouldn't be a surprise
Religion has become the last bastion of hatred based on exclusion. Not all religions, of course, but some hold that flame tighter than any before.

90. Isn't it ironic that these values voters
are just as extreme as the "Islamic jihadists" that they live to loathe? They're the American Taliban.

What a co-inky-dink.

Oh...and welcome to DU!

93. But this is who they are and what they have always been.
Xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, racism...all couched in religious doctrine.

Today's display comes as no surprise, especially when those of us who are not a male hetero and/or not white have dealt with this for many, many years

65. Books-a-Million is selling them. Time to let them know that you'll be shopping elsewhere.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3992692 Lots more info in that thread.

Books-a-Million toll free number
1-800-201-3550

Check your local phone book, and let the local BAM stores (and their subsidiaries below) know that you'll be skipping their store.

Some other places to mention that you'll be avoiding.

"In addition to its flagship Books-A-Million superstore, it operates storefronts badged Books & Company and shopping mall book and greeting card stores under the name Bookland. Most of its stores feature a Joe Muggs café, also the name used for the company's newsstand operations.

In addition to its primary retail component, the corporation includes a book wholesale and distribution subsidiary, American Wholesale Book Company (AWBC), an e-commerce division operating as BOOKSAMILLION.COM, and an internet development and services company, NetCentral, in Nashville, Tennessee.

In 2001, Books-A-Million acquired the Crown Books chain of bookstores."

84. Ah...what a Xtian thing to do. Jesus would be proud, I'm sure.
American religious right = circa 1939 Nazi sympathizers

No difference. They are so sure of their "righteous mission" that they would easily commit genocide, as long as it was deemed "o.k." by their fascist Xtian leaders.

FUCK XTIANS. I'm ready for a civil war, because here's a liberal who will not go down easily. I'm ready for a fight.

1) Because it's the right thing to do.

2) Whenever it becomes legal nationwide, the heads of these fucknuts will explode across America.

92. Racism is primarily fueled by sexual and/or financially related
issues.

To spell this out, right-wing, white, religious "fundies" do not want to have to compete on a level field with any other races for access to financial or sexual opportunities. Their narrow views on these topics flows from basic flaws in deductive skills. They erroneously assume that certain behavioral characteristics are based on racial genetics rather than realizing that basic human nature encompasses all races equally.

They are, in fact, too lazy to study behavior any deeper than skin color. The results are disastrous for all humankind.

Change cognitive value processes from contrived, subjective style to objectively observed realities
and racism will disappear. Could mankind accomplish this? Yes, but only after the current style of
superstitious thinking has been conclusively shown to be a false "bridge to nowhere".
