Palin's Former CAMPAIGN MANAGER: "She scares the bejeebers out of me"
From the NYT expose on Palin's cronyism and abuse of power as governor and mayor:

The article quotes several times from Laura Chase, Palin's campaign manager back in her run for mayor in 1996.

Laura Chase, the campaign manager during Ms. Palin’s first run for mayor in 1996, recalled the night the two women chatted about her ambitions.

“I said, ‘You know, Sarah, within 10 years you could be governor,’ ” Ms. Chase recalled. “She replied, ‘I want to be president.’ ” (p. 2)

Let's see -- unblinking ambition coupled with blind ignorance, incuriosity, and cronysim. Sound familiar?

Chase also recounts the book-banning incident:

Witnesses and contemporary news accounts say Ms. Palin asked the librarian about removing books from the shelves. The McCain-Palin presidential campaign says Ms. Palin never advocated censorship.

But in 1995, Ms. Palin, then a city councilwoman, told colleagues that she had noticed the book “Daddy’s Roommate” on the shelves and that it did not belong there, according to Ms. Chase and Mr. Stein. Ms. Chase read the book, which helps children understand homosexuality, and said it was inoffensive; she suggested that Ms. Palin read it.

“Sarah said she didn’t need to read that stuff,” Ms. Chase said. “It was disturbing that someone would be willing to remove a book from the library and she didn’t even read it.”

“I’m still proud of Sarah,” she added, “but she scares the bejeebers out of me.” (p. 3)

14. I disagree, she peeked too soon
She didn't put in her time in the party and they will see her as the reason why they failed in 08.

Had she waited, raised her son (or at least made it appear she had) gotten more involved with the advocacy groups and done something to help their causes, if say in 10 or 15 years she stepped out, then she would have been a force to reckon with. The good ole boy system will always be there and they will see her like women in the military, they have no place in combat.

You're right, she probably will be the nominee in 2012 because the base loves her. They'd rather nominate her to lose in a landslide than nominating somebody that can actually win.

12. McCain is the target so to speak.
Obama must go after mccain.......the more we spaz-out over her the more they take charge of the race...that is their desire, for us to target Palin, who can garner loads of sympathy from our mean streak.

Leave her rot on the side of the road. The media will follow if they get no traction.

Which she doesn't even know the meaning of because she's such a fucking idiot!

Even if you can accuse Obama of having as much ambition, at least he fucking worked for it. He worked like a dog for this. McCain also worked hard for it, by sacrificing everything he ever was just to fulfill this one ambition. She... just scary.

5. First question: Why does someone running for mayor of a town
of 5,000 people need a campaign manager? She received 600 votes. Obviously, she can't do anything on her own.

Second question: Why would this person be "proud of Sarah"?

11. Because she has patterned everything...
...about her political "self" from the national trends and tactics of the past two decades. Look at what she made her chief issues of her mayoral election: gun control and abortion.

As mayor of a tiny town? I've also heard she tried to bring gay marriage into the mix.

She is following an obvious and hackneyed strategy.

here. This woman is George W. Bush, II. SHe fires qualified people to make room for her unqualified friends, and fires anyone who disagrees with her. If they are in a position outside of her control where she can't fire them, she intimidates and harrasses them.

So when there was a vacancy at the top of the State Division of Agriculture, she appointed a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, to the $95,000-a-year directorship. A former real estate agent, Ms. Havemeister cited her childhood love of cows as one of her qualifications for running the roughly $2 million agency.

<SNIP>

And four months ago, a Wasilla blogger, Sherry Whitstine, who chronicles the governor’s career with an astringent eye, answered her phone to hear an assistant to the governor on the line, she said.

“You should be ashamed!” Ivy Frye, the assistant, told her. “Stop blogging. Stop blogging right now!”

<SNIP>

The administration’s e-mail correspondence reveals a siege-like atmosphere. Top aides keep score, demean enemies and gloat over successes. Even some who helped engineer her rise have felt her wrath.

**********************************************************************************
She's as uninformed and incurious as Bush too:

Not deeply versed in policy, Ms. Palin skipped some candidate forums; at others, she flipped through hand-written, color-coded index cards strategically placed behind her nameplate.

Before one forum, Mr. Halcro said he saw aides shovel reports at Ms. Palin as she crammed. Her showman’s instincts rarely failed. She put the pile of reports on the lectern. Asked what she would do about health care policy, she patted the stack and said she would find an answer in the pile of solutions.

*********************************************************************************

And corrupt?

Ms. Palin and aides use their private e-mail addresses for state business. On Feb. 7, Frank Bailey, a high-level aide, wrote to Ms. Palin’s state e-mail address to discuss appointments. Another aide fired back: “Frank, this is not the governor’s personal account.”

Mr. Bailey responded: “Whoops~!”

This woman scares the bejeebers out of me too!

Second, Havemeister has violated her own prohibition against using information to benefit "the staff or his or her family."

In fact, Havemeister even after being told not to, has reportedly had repeated meetings in her office with local farmers hoping to lease Mat Maid's equipment at a sweetheart price. Her father in law is one of the main players in the newly formed SouthCentral Dairy Co-Op.

At the last Creamery Board meeting on November 11, the board voted to lease the equipment to the newly formed co-op.

She keeps her cronies connected and they all profit.

Franci was fascinated with farms and particularly milk cows as a young person. After moving to the valley with her folks, she was immersed in a community filled with many farm families. Not surprisingly her fascination with cows and farms eventually introduced her to her future husband, the son of dairy farmers. Franci has seen, first hand, the challenges that Alaska dairy farmers experienced and wanted a change - a good and positive change. One where farmers not only made a descent living, but were respected for their hard work, knowledge and contribution to the social and economic fabric of Alaska.

You may remember the rally in June, a few days after Global Food Alaska, staged at the Havemeister Dairy Farm in Palmer where community came together to show their support for the farms after Matanuska Maid announced its closure. Franci was fully mobilized and was appointed to the new Agricultural Board. One of their new functions would be to identify a new Director and she was encouraged to apply for the position.
