Just got home from visiting Obama's new Tulsa, OK Campaign HQ! |
|
Today was the grand opening. They had an incredibly large crowd show up. I got there around 2:00, and it was still busy, but not packed as it had been earlier.
Want to buy an Obama/Biden T-shirt? SOLD OUT - ALL SIZES!
Want to buy an Obama/Biden button? Several left, but just a couple.
Want to buy an Obama/Biden bumper sticker? SOLD OUT!
Want to buy a yard sign? $2 and you can take one home, but the pile was dwindling.
And this despite bad weather - Tulsa is experiencing heavy downpours on and off from Ike.
It's an impressive facility, in a great location on Cherry Street, which is a local area with restaurants, specialty retail shops, etc. They even have a roof top patio with outdoor fireplace that looks out onto the street below!
Everyone is very excited, and officials said that polling here is showing localized strong support for Obama as well as other Dems running, so an office here became a must do. Several of them even ventured to say it's not impossible to think that Oklahoma might vote Democratic for President this year. It will apparently be the first time a Dem has carried the state since Johnson in 1964!
At any rate, I think it's money well spent. I see a LOT more Obama stickers and signs than I do McSame. Send good thoughts our way, folks. We need them to turn Oklahoma blue! (At this point, I would even settle for a shade of purple.)

1. Same situation at the grand opening of my nearest office |

this past Tuesday night. It was unbelievable - they had one yard sign left! No Obama/Biden anythings. Just some stickers on a roll.

2. I wish I could have made it.! |

I have no hope that Oklahoma will go blue, but our votes will show the support for Obama out there even in the reddest of red states.
Here in Edmond and OKC, I don't see many stickers one way or the other, but when I do, they're Obama stickers. It's a big difference from '04 where W stickers were everywhere you turned your head. My boss says he actually saw a truck with a W '04 and an Obama 08 sticker side by side! I'm still waiting for my bumper sticker from MoveOn.org. I haven't seen any yard signs in my neighborhood either. I wonder if it's apathy or trepidation.
