OBAMA TALKS HURRICANE, BASHES MCCAIN - first read
-- Obama, who canceled a planned appearance on Saturday Night Live tonight out of concern over Hurricane Ike, asked supporters gathered in a park here Saturday morning to keep storm victims in their thoughts and be prepared to help.

He then, however, went on to deliver a sustained assault against McCain as the opposite of change. Comparing their plans on taxes, health care, education, national security and energy and warning a crowd the campaign put at 8,000, citing the fire chief, not to "be fooled" by McCain and Palin's promises of reform.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This part is about the Hurricane and what our campaign is doing about it
so I will let our readers read that

-------------------------------------------------------------------
John McCain doesn't get it. He doesn't know what's going on in your lives," he said, repeating a phrase that has become a new favorite since a Sept. 11th service forum featuring both candidates. "How else could you say the definition of rich is when you make $5 million, so that somebody making $4 million must be struggling. How else could you have an education adviser who admitted in the New York times that, you know, John McCain hasn't paid much attention to education policy? Or a health-care advisor who said that we don't really have uninsured because everybody can go to the emergency room. They don't get it. They don't understand what is happening in your day-to-day lives."

The McCain campaign sent out a statement blasting Obama for what it called personal attacks against the Arizona senator.

“It says a lot about Barack Obama's judgment that while his campaign canceled his appearance on Saturday Night Live and his running mate stayed home, Obama went ahead and delivered a series of scathing personal attacks,” McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds wrote. “Today's attacks mark a new low from Barack Obama.”

When asked which attacks were "personal," another spokesperson, Andrea Saul, pointed to Obama's statement that McCain had "no commitment to public education."

Saul wrote that McCain had attended the Naval Academy and his kids went to public schools and said it was "outlandish to insinuate that Sen. McCain doesn't care about public education."

1. The classic bully's response.
"You're not supposed to hit me when I hit you first!" At least, that's what Mikey told me when I was 5 and he was beating me up every day.

7. It would be almost as ridiculous as claiming that you just
did a personal attack on me by responding to this thread.

I think this is a turning point because it shows they are just getting desperate
in their responses now.

5. Another subtle error by McCain and Co.:
By acknowledging the "attacks" are drawing blood, they're weakening their own "Obama is a pussy" meme for voters who might be predisposed to think that.

without intellectual merit. McCain has no plan for education.

8. "John McCain doesn't get it. He doesn't know what's going on in your lives,"
While this is very true, it might a losing battle as a meme this time around.

McCain/Palin, as a male/female ticket is like a Daddy/Mommy dichotomy. In the family, Daddy can be clueless as long as Mommy knows what's going on in your life, and I think most people feel that Sarah Palin can really sympathize with the average person's life. (We know this is bullcrap, but many voters respond to archtypes, not substance.)

With a male/male ticket, it becomes more important that the President knows what is going on in your life.

What I think is that Biden should go after Palin and say "Palin does not understand what is going on in your lives." Show how she is really a politician and not a "real", "normal" person.

13. P* is not, I repeat, NOT the candidate
McCain is the Presidential candidate - the "mommy/daddy" supposition makes no sense to me.

If McCain can't run the country, no VP is going to make him do it better. How pathetic would someone have to be to think that the VP is going to pull the puppet strings for 4 years - that's not how this country is run. Cheney was quite the exception, but even he lurked in the background for the most part.

That's the problem. Don't yell at me. I'm not the one who is voting that way. But most people vote emotionally, not logically.

The shine is wearing off and all that's left is the actual senile candidate who can't stop his running mate from lying 24/7.

I just don't think that this person is in the majority. I know how uninformed so many people are, but think that most..if they knew the facts would either stay home or vote for Obama. My faith in people goes up and down like a yo-yo, and it's alot easier losing hope, than it is getting it. We have so little time left, that I just have to believe that we can do this.

31. I changed two voters today
One, going to the car at my condo talking to the Hillary fan.
The next at the dog park talking to another woman who also
gets her news from the wrong places.

Two
The people at the dog park like to hear my opinions and facts.
I also give them references on what to google to confirm the facts themselves.

I have never been proven wrong on the economy, news or what is what and they have come to respect that.

I changed another one that liked Palin but didn't like McCain and bought into their bullshit.

34. That is something...a two-fer!
it's amazing what a little information does. I think that the media, going overboard the way that it has is actually helping. It used to be when I talked about the media people would look at me like I was paranoid, or a conspiracy freak. But they have so tarnished themselves that pointing out the lies is like shooting fish in a barrel.

because of Palin?...that makes no sense to me unless she just hates men and wants any ticket that has a vagina on it. Seriously...I'm not doubting she exists, but she is in a very, very, very small minority.

36. It blew my mind! She does have a lot of friends and entertains many
X- military enlisted retiree spouses, which I can hear when I walk by, so yes, she is influential in her sphere.
She is a 'Law and order' type person. She shops at the base.

She and I had conversations about Arnold and she has worn anti-Arnold T-shirts
I've dealt with her on Condo Board and with the arson that affected both of our units
plus the litigation that involved the corruption of the board.
I know her, she is uninformed, conservative but changes with good information.

I gave her the low down on the Politics of Palin, with not hiring blacks in Alaska, her religionist
views on Abortion and even questioned her on ............ 'I can't believe a black person, let alone
a woman, would even consider voting for that Ticket".

She said she never heard any of this information before, but would have to reevaluate her stance.
and may not even vote.

She still thanks Obama is a Muslim.
Church and state is still strong in this town.

She considered mccain but was so pissed off about his statements about public education in his convention speech. She wasn't warm to Obma until I showed her a link to his education plan. Now at least she'll be open to Obama because she said that she didn't want to vote for a repub.

39. Dishonorable and unworthy.

The Obama campaign responded quickly, e-mailing this statement from Press Secretary Bill Burton: “We will take no lectures from John McCain who is cynically running the sleaziest and least honorable campaign in modern Presidential campaign history. His discredited ads with disgusting lies are running all over the country today.

He runs a campaign not worthy of the office his is seeking."

Amen and I hope the keep chipping away at the facade.

p.s. - just saw that "same old" "not ready to lead" Mccain ad - :puke:
