The Troll Scorpion and the Liberal Frog.
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 03:18 AM by bluesbassman
One day, a troll scorpion looked around at the GD forum where he lived and decided that he wanted a change. So he set out on a journey through the threads and sub-threads. He climbed over dead trolls and under tombstones and kept going until he reached a Forum, the dreaded GDP.

The river was wide and swift through GDP, and the troll scorpion stopped to reconsider the situation. He couldn't see any way across. So he ran up thread and then checked down thread, all the while thinking that he might have to turn back.

Suddenly, he saw a Liberal frog sitting in the rushes by the bank of the forum on the other side. He decided to ask the Liberal frog for help getting across the churning pool of chaos.
"Hellooo Mr. Liberal Frog!" called the troll scorpion across the posts, "Would you be so kind as to give me a ride on your back across the forum?"
"Well now, Mr. Troll Scorpion! How do I know that if I try to help you, you wont try to kill me?" asked the Liberal frog hesitantly. "Because," the troll scorpion replied, "If I try to kill you, then I would die too, for you see I cannot swim!"

Now this seemed to make sense to the frog. But he asked. "What about when I get close to the bank? You could still try to kill me and get back to the shore!" "This is true," agreed the scorpion, "But then I wouldn't be able to get to the other side of the forum!"
"Alright then...how do I know you wont just wait till we get to the other side and THEN kill me?" said the frog. "Ahh...," crooned the troll scorpion, "Because you see, once you've taken me to the other side of this forum, I will be so grateful for your help, that it would hardly be fair to reward you with death, now would it?!"

So the Liberal frog agreed to take the troll scorpion across the forum. He swam over to the bank and settled himself near the mud and slime and innuendo to pick up his passenger. The troll scorpion crawled onto the frog's back, his sharp claws prickling into the frog's soft hide, and the Liberal frog slid into the forum. The muddy water, made so by lies, distortions and rancor swirled around them, but the Liberal frog stayed near the surface so the troll scorpion would not drown. He kicked strongly through the first half of the forum, his flippers paddling wildly against the current.

Halfway across the forum, the frog suddenly felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the troll scorpion remove his stinger from the Liberal frog's back. A deadening numbness began to creep into his limbs. "You fool!" croaked the frog, "Now we shall both die! Why on earth did you do that?" The troll scorpion shrugged, and did a little Carl Rove jig on the drowning Liberal frog's back. "I could not help myself. It is my nature." Then they both sank into the muddy waters of the swiftly flowing GDP forum.

Self destruction - "Its my Nature", said the Scorpion... Beware the scorpion, choose your friends wisely, and keep one eye on your enemies always. There will be time enough to save truly repentant “scorpions” when we have one the prize.

3. How does it spread fear and paranoia?
Does burying ones' head in the sand insulate one from this fear and paranoia you speak of?

I really have nothing to offer in exchange.

The fact that you wish the people on this site to fear "the other" is blatant.

Quite frankly, it amounts to little more than an ad hominem.

6. Where exactly did I promote "fear" of other people?
Is this what has your knickers bunched up?

Seems to me that I'm promoting a pragmatic approach to relating to some of our more questionable posters.

But that's okay, you go on believing every single word that's typed on this board, make sure you have plenty of time to decode it all for the wealth of positive information you'll glean from all of them. Please don't hesitate to supply daily breifings so we don't mistakenly ignore a truly gifted and erudite troll who is just being misndrstood.

No, I did not accuse you of being a troll.
I did suggest that you may have ostrich like tendencies, and it would appear that you are proving my point. Unfortunately, that provides me no joy, as we need as many clear and rationally thinking people participating on this board as possible. I truly believe that you are one of those people, I just think you may have taken my OP the wrong way from the start.

If I said anything that you took to be a personal slur or disparagement to you, I apologize, My whole intent was to get people to think a little bit more about the "hot button" issues and how the can sometimes be spun and manipulated here.

5. You make this place sound scary...
I need scorpion friends that will sting me in the back just about as much as I need a frog friends that have been licking their own backs a little too much... I just don't need the extra drama.

8. It's as scary as you want to make it my friend.
On the other hand, it's as enlightening, positive, powerful, and hopeful as you want to make it.

My point with this fable was to remind people that not everyone posting here has the progressive/liberal ideology as their foundation. There has been an enormous amount of disinformation, spin, lies, and just plain old tabloid trash slung about over the past few months, and I believe it will only increase as we get nearer the GE. Ones best defense is to acknowledge that it going to be here, and keep a wary eye open to spot it for what it is.

10. you really should
tell the mods instead of inciting a witch hunt. The mods here do a fine job of being on top of things and that is what they are here for.

13. A witch hunt? Are you kidding me?
I never said one thing abut "calling people out", alerting on them, or any other negative repercussions.

I'm just encouraging people to think about what is being said in some of the OP, threads and posts, and form an educated opinion about the words been used and WHY they would be.

The mods do an outstanding job of removing the hostile posters whose only intent is to start flame wars. Unfortunately some of these individuals get a lot of passive aggressive post in prior to their granite pizzas, and some folks don't know what to make of it.

I question everything. If it's right and true, ti doesn't take to long to figure it out. If it's questionable, I take the time to assess the veracity of what's being said, and then determine if it has value for our cause.

14. Well, apparently...
in no time at all, you have decided that I am an "erudite troll".

Seriously, think about it, are you part of the problem or part of the cure?

20. Well, if you are a troll,
You certainly are a polite one. Seriously though, I have no reason to call you a troll, nor have I done so. As a matter of fact, upthread I did make an apology if I had offended you.

You have asked If I feel that I am "part of the problem". If the problem you suggest is disinformation, slander, slurs, and lies, then I would have to answer a resounding no. That leaves "the cure". If encouraging people to think about what they're reading, and vetting those word against other sources helps "the cure" in even the smallest way, then yes I do fell to be contributing to it.

16. if people
don't follow the rules--the mods will take care of it.

If they do follow the rules, they shouldn't have any problems.

If there is a grey area--tell the mods/admin and they will make the call--that is what they do.

A perfect analogy for these tumultuous times.

I don't understand some of the "backlash" posts though. They do seem to reinforce your point.

23. Nice metaphor bluesbassman
No doubt it angers scorpions who’s secretes are revealed, spurning the sheep dogs guarding the elusion to attack.

And in my book, that calls for a toast :toast: as well as a K&R.
