Co-chair of John McCain’s presidential campaign sues Wisconsin
state's election authority. Van Hollen,is our Wisconsin Attorney General.

Van Hollen — a Republican serving as the state co-chair of John McCain’s presidential campaign — of filing the suit for partisan gain.http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=793886

I received a letter from this Election Board. Data they are collecting does not follow the "target group" the article states. I find this very curious that my name and address have not changed in over a decade, and I'm not a new registered voter in over a decade. Two years ago, while voting I was asked for my birth-date, and I declined. Last summer our clerk wrote a letter asking for my birth-date. Again I confirmed that this was only a request and not a mandate. It was confirmed it was only a request so I declined.

Van Hollen sued the state Government Accountability Board Wednesday, saying it must crosscheck voter names with driver’s license records for some voters who registered to vote or changed their addresses since Jan. 1, 2006.

The question that emerged Thursday was what would happen to voters who failed the checks if Van Hollen prevails. His aides said the board would have to remove truly ineligible voters from the rolls — such as felons serving their sentences or dead people — but that it would be up to the board to determine who was qualified to vote.

Such a waste of our States Resources!

2. There is going to be a hearing this Thursday.
A hearing has been set for Sept. 19 before Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi. Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle — who was co-chair of Barack Obama’s primary campaign in Wisconsin — hired Madison attorney Lester Pines on Thursday at the board’s request.

3. Please keep DU posted with whatever happens regarding this.
I posted a thread with links to some of the election-related threads in GD (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=3996357&mesg_id=3996357)

One of them mentions shenanigans in Wisconsin (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=507970&mesg_id=507970)

I hope this means we're catching them before they can do any more damage.

4. These two events are happening back to back here in Wisconsin.
This is a real concern for me. A number said that the were not registered Democrats, but had donated to Obama, so it appears that the public donor lists were the McCain campaign's source of the names. This had to have been cross-checked with change-of-address info at the BOEs

7. We should make a bumber sticker out of this.
IN 2000 It Was Florida, In 2004 It Was Ohio, In 2008 It Will Be Wisconsin. I say we recall VanHollen for using his office to disenfranchise voters. And wasting tax payer dollars.

10. Maryann Sumi will be the judge hearing the case...
I think there is a good chance that JB and his party first crowd may lose this one...

Sumi is listed as a supporter of former Wisconsin Supreme Court Judge Louis Butler on his website for his unsuccessful reelection bid.

Butler was defeated by the GOP political machine on April 1 by former Burnett County Circuit Judge Michael Gableman.

Sumi has been on the bench since 1998 and enjoys a reputation as a fine jurist and political liberal, informed observers say.

11. I'm not sure what impact the Wisconsin voter wins if
Van Hollen is stopped from doing this over reaching into who meets criteria and who doesn't. I want to be taken off this list. To me, it is tantamount to the no fly list.
