Poll: Obama Moves Into Double-Digit Iowa Lead, 52%-40%
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 09:18 AM by ClarkUSA
The Des Moines Register poll is the acknowledged gold standard in Iowa.

"Top campaign advisers to Obama and McCain have said Iowa, where the past two presidential elections have been decided
by 10,000 votes and fewer, is in the top tier of swing states. However, there are signs in the poll that Obama has a healthy
advantage among key voter groups here."

Key finding: Obama wins independents, 49% to 36%.

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080913/NEWS09/80913038&theme=IOWA_POLL

Update: If Obama wins all the Kerry states and Iowa, all he would need is Virginia. Or New Mexico and Nevada. Or Colorado
and New Mexico. So if you're not already volunteering, get working now for Team Obama by phonebanking into battleground
states to get out the vote: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/phonebankinglanding

Hat Tip to DC Bob for correcting my electoral math. :hi:

3. Good news. Here's a question:
I believe that McCain dissed Iowa in each of his Prez campaigns. Did he not think for one minute that this state, which is with NH, among the most politically aware states, might, just might be important?

14. McCain's bellicose pro-war stance is a bad fit for Iowa - Iowans also hate attack politics.
The Iowa Republican Party has been taken over by Christianists recently, which should depress the GOP turnout there
and/or drive many moderate Republicans and right-leaning indies to vote for Obama.

9. Yeah, when you look at a state by state view of the polls instead of that
stupid national daily tracking poll. Obama wins. That really looks more relevant than the national polls they do.

I can't imagine another 4 yrs of these idiots running this country K& on top of that Palin; what a nightmare.

for Iowa we would not have this wonderful man as our nominee. Iowa was the key.

27. Unlike McCain/Palin, Obama/Biden is well-liked/loved, familiar, and admired in Iowa.
Obama is viewed as Iowa's native son, politically.

13. IA would have brought Kerry to 258 votes, not 270.
It was important, but not the state that would have put Kerry over the edge, at least not by itself.

National polls mean little when it is a state by state battle.

34. Polls like this make me proud to be an Iowan!
I think the reasons that Iowa is no longer a swing state is many-fold.

1. Obama is from neighboring Illinois, which Eastern Iowa holds to a high esteem. (Western Iowa doesn't, but there isn't that many people out there.) McCain is from Arizona.

2. Obama was highly successful in the Iowa caucuses, coming from behind to beat "front-runner" Hillary Clinton. McCain was a dismal fourth place to Huckabee, Romney, and "Old Man" Thompson.

3. Obama has support of many of the key issues out here, like agricultural stuff. McCain is not for corn-produced ethanol, which is bad for his support here.

4. Iowans are generally more educational based than most other Midwest states. We can see through the BS that McCain is spewing.

There are many, many others, but the polls show that Iowans do not particularly like McCain.
