Sadly, Republicans Don't Get Punished For Telling Lies, Even When the MSM Holds Them To the Truth
This is because Republicans don't care about the truth. They only care about themselves and their party. They will tolerate a Republican purgering himself on the stand if it means they get what they want. That's why Scooter Libby got a pardon from Bush. They will tolerate lies from their president even if it means he lied us into a war, killed millions of Iraqi citizens and over 4000 U.S. soldiers while bankrupting this country. As long as they get their tax cuts, it's OK. And They will tolerate lies from McCain/Palin as long as they can get their tax cuts and use guns, abortion, religion and flag-pins to divide America. They are the ones still campaigning on these issues. And they are telling complete lies.

I hope America is not mostly Republican. I hope Americans do care about these lies being told. Because if America is unhappy with Bush, they shouldn't be believing a word McCain says.

Republicans have shown they don't care about truth. I hope Americans in general do.

1. About 47% of Americans care about lying and integrity
and what's good for this country.

We have to peel off the 4-5% of the others through some kind of trickery.

3. The usual response from people I talk to is "They all lie like that."
It's not that they don't believe that Republicans are being dishonest. It's just that they also assume that Democrats are equally dishonest even if there is no real evidence to support that hypothesis. I think that it is partly a side effect of the cynicism that has taken root over politics and also that the Republicans have done an effective job pushing the "liberal media bias" meme over the years.

4. Fear of change
Liberals and progressives actively set about trying to change society. Shifting boarders and changing rules. This causes a great deal of stress to some who do not adapt to change as readily. And when these reluctant members of society find themselves being the butt end of comments about their lack of tolerance or understanding they begin to build up resentment. It has become so much so that anything that causes liberals or progressives distress is seen as a great thing to these people. This is why libelous people such as Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh find an audience amongst this crowd. Even lies are tolerable in their eyes as long as it causes the left distress in comparison to their own distress they continue to feel in a society that continues to shift away from their views.

5. Big Media Corporations are really pushing the Republican agenda hard.
Americans are far different from the 10% who love that culture war being pumped at the RNC convention, but the corporate media are doing their best to pretend Republicans are right.

The TV media don't bother telling the truth every time a lie is floated. The reporters do the one or two stories debunking the eBay plane thing and other lies. That covers them because oh yes, they reported about the lie once. The next time it is said, they don't tell us "Palin and McCain lied again." each time those candidates use discredited lines. If they were balanced, they would indeed report that "Palin and McCain are still lying about the Bridge to Nowhere." "McCain lied again about his running mate's opposition to earmarks..."

Shameless in their pro-Republican pushing this time.

They seem to know the Republican ticket really needs help and they are giving it to them.
