A short Sunday Essay:
I wish to make a few points given the events of the last few weeks.

First, this country is on a threshold of mortal danger. Our financial markets are poised for collapse since the brokers themselves have been propping up their own institutions and have become a house of cards. We are militarily over-extended and are fielding candidates in one Party who apparently think nothing of declaring that they are not opposed to war with Russia. With Russia? I what decade am I living? There is no talk of diplomacy, of returning to the wider world community after the catastrophes, in this regard, of the last eight years. This way lies madness.

Second, if Obama were to lose this election, and if McCain were placed in the Oval Office with that tinhorn Annie Oakley - Moose-o-lini - Narcissistic dope at his side, the odds of his still being President two years later are less than 30%. If I have to sit through a State of the Union speech with Sarah Palin at the podium, I'm going to have to consider moving to Israel and making Aliyah. I'm not kidding. It just isn't worth it anymore if this becomes the case and we descend into the Circle of Hell of which even Dante hadn't conceived.

Third and finally, unless the powers that be come to their senses quickly, this march towards Oblivion will gain momentum like a flywheel in a tractor and no amount of rational begging will change the outcome. If these puppeteers think that they can control the puppet, they are mightily mistaken.

This is a very sad and frightening time for America and that is why I'm redoubling my efforts for the campaign for President. This is, as the Conservative Margaret Thatcher said to Bush the Elder, this is no time to go wobbly.

I am going to start volunteering this week at our Democratic Headquarters...it's feeling way too scary right now for me to not get into action. Phonebanking 5:00 on Wednesday.
