A little disheartened by Sunday morning talk shows |
|
I wasn't going to let them get to me, but I couldn't help it.
I might have missed it, but it seemed like nobody was talking about the lack of honesty or integrity in the McCain/Palin camp. When you use a quote from factcheck, org in an ad, and factcheck.org rips you for it, you know you have hit a low water mark. Instead, you get the entire McLaughlin group (should have known better than to watch that one) talking about how authentic Palin is. Authentic? She had a speech written for her by someone else and regurgitated it for a week, even as most of her key points were proven false. And you get Tom Brokaw talking about how much of an advantage McCain has in leadership and character (to be fair, I did not want to look at Giuliani, so I don't know how that interview went). I saw a good line or two from Begala, but for the most part, it seemed like everything was skewed to the right.
Oh well. Deep breath. Still 50 days to go.

1. As soon as I saw the guest list for the Sunday shows i knew it |
|
wouldn't be worth it to watch. I read that the ABC with George S. was good with Carly getting her butt handed to her but other than that nothing.

stop watching. I won't dignify them by turning it on.

that this isn't a game, it's the country's future we're talking about. The choice of Palin was a dangerous move and an insult to the country. Instead of pointing this out, they just keep on trying to sell her to us as a legitimate choice to run the country.
Shameful.

4. I REALLY, REALLY miss Tim Russert. |
|
Say what you will about the guy, but I really don't think he would have let this Palin garbage get by without making some people answer some tough questions regarding her abilities and knowledge... let alone let her get away with dodging the press like she has.

6. and Brokaw is a poor replacement. |
|
He just doesn't cut it. Neither does Gregory. Even Jon Stewart would be better than either of these two! But it would have to be somebody more knowledgeable than him.
Who have we got left that will really challenge the spin?

"the theatrics in the football stadium."
I was surprised that he wasn't wearing a McCain/Palin pin...

9. Things I learned while watching the Sunday talk shows |
|
- Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and Janet Napolitano OWNED Face The Nation, and they are, by far, the two toughest Obama surrogates out there. Well worth watching Wasserman-Schultz, especially, beat up on former Mass. Governor Jane Swift and TX Sen. Kay Bailey-Hutchinson, whose heart is just clearly not in this.
- Mush-mouth Tom Brokaw is TOTALLY IN THE TANK FOR MCCAIN/PALIN. It's absolutely jarring.
- George Will takes a ride on the McCain BBQ Tire Swing; joins other well-informed Republican pundits in The Big Lie: "Well, I never heard of the Bush Doctrine, either!"
- If there were such a thing as a Smirk Tax, George Will would be levied heavily. When Claire Schipman and (husband) Jay Carney point out the deceptive and lying McCain ads, George Will just smirks. At one point, Carney even says, "You're saying, 'so what', aren't you, George?" To which George Will responds with a smirk.
- All three shows are absolutely more interested in the part of the Charlie Gibson interview where Palin says Obama must be regretting not choosing Hillary as a running mate than ANY OTHER PORTION of the interview.
- The media is not serious. Nothing has changed.
- Bob Schieffer could really spare me his folksy Texas animal metaphors. I could :puke:

10. Nothing personal, but can we stop posting these depressing threads? |
|
This past few weeks have been filled with depressing, or worried, or panicked, or negative, threads. I'm really not sure why people want to fuel such a loser mentality here.
Maybe we should all just give up... and go home. Seriously, does anyone writing these posts believe that we're not being read closely by the media? The type of thread that keeps getting started here, are conversations you should have with a friend on the phone or in email or PM with a DUer friend. Not really something for the masses.

12. I use Sunday mornings to get caught up on the shows I Tivo'd during the week. |
|
Haven't watched one of those Sunday morning political shows in years, and I suggest in order to keep your sanity, you quit them too. I can learn everything I need to know about what happened on them by reading it here on DU, and trust me, it's a lot easier on the blood pressure.
