Just something I want to clarify, before I slam my head into anymore walls out of frustration. |
|
There's a difference between running a tough campaign, running a dishonorable campaign, and taking the highroad. The key to taking down McCain is hitting him hard with the TRUTH. That means calling him out on lies and hypocrisy, and not using nuanced language, in other words, lies are lies, dishonor is dishonor. When I, and others, say that Obama doesn't need to run a campaign like McCain in order to win, I (and some of my fellows) mean that he doesn't need to lie, distort, or smear in order to win. That's not taking the 'high road.' That's just keeping our soul and our integrity. McCain sold his long ago. If we can't win with the TRUTH, then what the fuck is the point? America's screwed if that's the case. Obama needs to fight hard, but he does NOT need to be like Rove. I get sick of seeing people on DU kissing Rove's ass. Rove wins with LIES. LIES will not bring us VICTORY. Just wanted everybody to be perfectly clear on that. A campaign of the hard-hitting truth is not 'dirty'...if you want to play like Rove, then play somewhere else. I think most of us would rather win with truth and honor rather than lies and shame.

5. Agreed. The Democratic party means nothing if it sells out for fear of losing. |
|
And if we were to sink that low to win, then either way, we've lost something.

Frankly, I don't give a shit how nasty we have to be.
Haven't we finally learned our lesson from the last seven presidential election cycles?

21. Why do we have to make shit up to do it? What do you mean, 'haven't we learned our lesson'? |
|
That in order to win, we have to cheat? Then what the hell is the point?

10. See, I keep saying that Obama needs to hold a daily presser... |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 02:12 PM by 1corona4u
and address the LIES, one by one, by putting the TRUTH out there. He would get a lot of daily play out of it too. AND, that approach would be quite a change from old style politics.
John said this; the truth is this; John said this; the truth is this;....I think that would be very effective.

20. The way the press is getting sick of McCain's lying to them... |
|
I think that might well play.
Of course, I can't help but think an ad should be put out saying something on the order of: "The election is about a choice for the voters. When John McCain lies to the voters, he is trying to take away the voters' rights to a choice."
Of course, the people who are buying the lies, are probably too dumb to get it...

11. Totally agree with you |

Honesty and clarity of language will be our advantage. Call lies lies. Say it - use the clearest, most honest words.
"Gentlemanly" behavior - if it means couching criticism in diplomatic, fuzzy language, is a loser.
Call McCain out using strong clear words. Obama is good with words - he needs to work a bit on the brevity, though. Short, clear, and painfully honest bites. That's what's called for.

12. America's ALREADY Screwed---Or Hadn't You Noticed? |
|
Every day here at DU, we're being urged to take more and more issues off the table: Palin's bizarre religion, McCain's lack of computer abilities, etc., etc., etc., all in the name of taking the high road, playing by the rules, and not sinking to the Repubs' level. Like I keep saying---it's like a lot of you are willing to settle for a Good Sportsmanship medal, rather than the White House. Well, fuck that. I say we use every weapon that might be remotely effective---you know, the way the Republicans do to whip our asses, while we stand there, waving the Truth in the faces of an unresponsive electorate and thinking that it'll work, this time....

I refuse to let The Republicans set the bar for my behavior. "Saddam tortured, so its OK for us to torture !"I don't think so. "There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone
