10. Lindsay has a girlfriend |
|
<snip> "Lindsay Lohan has joined Matt Damon and Pam Anderson criticizing VP candidate Sarah Palin, this time as a "narrow minded, media obsessed homophobe." On her official myspace page, she and girlfriend Sam Ronson have written a lengthy, measured post on Sarah Palin. Ronson posted the same piece on her blog. Earlier this month Lohan encouraged the press the focus on the issues when it comes to Palin
In the new post the pair point to Palin's lack of experience, her recent desire to be a television anchor and her belief in saving and converting gay people..." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/14/lindsay-lohan-and-sam-ron_n_126271.html

|
She hasn't actually said anything yet, but she was enthusiastically clapping at the MTV awards last week when the host Russell something or other (British guy) was doing an extended rant against McCrazy and Moosealini.
Maybe her recent trip through depression or whatever it was gave her a little reality check and she doesn't think we "need to trust the pResident" anymore?

2. Do you think her fans take political advice from her?
3. Do you think the number of her fans that will cast their vote based off of her opinion are enough to make up for the voters who are turned off by a candidate who has just been endorsed by a young hollywood starlet with a history of drug abuse and unbalanced actions?

|
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 08:36 PM by wmbrew0206
Yes, Cindy has a history of drug abuse. However, it was prescription drugs. A lot of people have had similar problems, so that might relate a little bit better than a young starlet doing cociane and driving under the influence.
I think that more swing voters would forgive a married women for getting addicted to pills vs a young starlet doing blow and acting erracticly.
In a situation like this, I always think what would we be saying if this person had said the same but endorsed a rethug? I don't think it would be what we've seen on this thread.
FYI, I also think the rethugs have people they wish would not open their mouths.
John Voit, party of one? Hello? Is this thing on?

|
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 08:51 PM by JackBeck
And Lohan is making these statements after receiving treatment for her personal problems. After The Washington Post(?) article that was published last week, from what I gather, the jury's still out on whether or not Mrs. McCain completed her treatment agreement.
Not to mention, if you read the whole statement, she makes a very valid point when enumerating Palin's hypocrisy, which more swing voters would find more attractive.
I find it fascinating the whole right-wing, Republican meme that celebrities should keep their mouths shut, given that one of theirs was a President and another a current California governor.
I guess hypocrisy isn't in short supply when you're a Republican.

39. To answer your response |
|
As I have said above, swing voters are more apt to forgive a married mother of three for an addiction to pain pills than they are a Hollywood starlet who has been arrested with cocaine. The reason is that more middle class women can envision getting hooked on pain medication than they can getting hooked on blow. Now, Cindy stealing it from her charity adds a new factor to the equation but even still, I think more soccer moms would back Cindy than Lindsay.
I didn't say right wing celebrities kept their mouths shut, but that republicans wish they would. My dad is a die hard rethug and he was not happy about Voit appearing on Fox and going pro-McCain. He said "This makes us (rethugs) no better than those Democrats with their Babs and Tim Ribbins."
As far as your point about swing voters, I think it comes down to who they relate to more. Right or wrong, I think swing voters would defend and vote for a Palin-type figure over a Lohan-type figure. Hence my orginal comment that Lindsay just hurt Obama more than she helped.

67. You're saying more people would be moved to forgive Cindy? |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 01:04 AM by JackBeck
Cindy McCain was dating John while he was still married. How many women do you know would forgive the 'other woman' for that? The divorce rate is pretty high in this country. In most cases, I'm left to assume another woman is involved. In some cases, yes, another man, but for the most part, most data shows that it is because of another woman.
Sure, she then became the mother of a growing family, but how many mothers do you know steal from their OWN children's charity to feed their addiction and then use their husband's political influence to cover for their illegal activity?
You actually think this would garner sympathy from women voters, or for that matter, independents?
Lindsay Lohan is a kid and most adults and her peers will cut her some slack from her youthful indiscretions.
But Cindy McCain was an adult when she did these things. She should have known better. And when adults fuck up, contrary to what you postulate, we hold them to a higher standard than we do the kids. We're the ones who are supposed to be examples, not the kids.
Ultimately, though, I'd love to see Cindy McCain's addiction problems debated and discussed on shows like The View, Access Hollywood, and Entertainment Tonight, just like when we are forced to watch Lohan's problems.
But until then, you have nothing.

Again, another difficult question to answer, since that question has yet to be polled/researched/explored.
But I can guarantee you that she definitely won over, and probably gained an enormous amount of respect, from a huge contingent of queer youth voters, and those that support the LGBT community.

There is a lot of racism in the swing states and these comments from Lindsay adds fuel to the fundie fire of the illmoral Hollywood types backing Obama.
I don't agree with it but hate the fact we have to worry about it in an election.

And a VOTE. It amazes me that people, and the media, are so obsessed about Obama's fundraiser with Barbra last night. She is an American with a checkbook and a vote. She and the many who attended this party are absolutely no different than any other fundraiser. Again, the republicans make it about personalities, not issues.

I relly don't care about individual celebs, but I do work in the entertainment industry and I resent the idea that people who are in the public because their main skill is singing, dancing, acting or whatever are not supposed to have political opinions or express them in public. She's as entitled to voice her thoughts as you or I, or any of the talking heads you see being asked for comment on the news. That she's the object of gossip doesn't alter that.

Comment on politics. These two women share none of my morals and have basically destroyed their life thanks to booze and drugs and in the case of Spears just plain irresponsibly. Yet on the other hand I also realize they have every right to speak their mind and just like the rest of us, you have to take someones faults with their accomplishments.
