Did my priest endorse Obama?
Here is a quote from his homily on August 17.

"In this political year, when we exercise our right to shape our government, our decisions should be guided by the gospel. Those candidates who call for inclusion and solidarity merit our support. Those who base their platforms on exclusion and fear do not reflect God’s vision for the world."

3. Not exactly, which is good. The pulpit is not the place to push
for one candidate or another, but it is all right to ask parishioners to make their selection after deep introspection.

6. Which is what my minister does.
We are encouraged to read, learn, get the facts and then go vote on election day. If we know of folk who can't get to the polls, then offer them a ride. (Yes, I am an evil Christian. )

7. The Wicked Witch of the West really insulted Catholics, many of whom are community organizers
and work with community groups. Obama worked with Catholic churches when he was a C.O.

12. From our news letter:
The Way I See It

The Body Politic

Remember that the church is not called to be one more political interest group.
The human race needs an administration of another kind.
The longing is for a carpenter-turned rabbi, who once ran for Messiah, and got crucified.
So we read about the issues. We debate. We learn about policy. We pray. We speak respectfully in the public square. We vote at elections. We serve on councils and cabinets. We preach abut God's concern for the whole person-all 6 billion plus on planet earth. We share his plan for peace, justice, and redemption for all humanity in Christ.
And on Nov. 4, 2008 we all vote.
