On the 'hockey mom' thing
How does driving a kid to the rink several times a week qualify one to be vice president?

You have to fit that in between working and going to the gym. It's a monumental struggle.

5. According to DUers, if you don't think being a hockey mom qualifies you for VP....
then you're sexist.

Myself, I want more.

10. If you challenge Palin on her career/experience, that's ok.
If you call her a bitch, a c---; or talk incessantly about her ovaries, her water breaking, her daughter's uterus; or if you start implying she should be home with her children instead of working; then you are attacking her as a woman and not a politician. Then you are being sexist. And in being sexist, you insult women in general, especially working mothers with children.

Think about it in terms of Barack Obama. If he is challenged on his career/experience, that's fair game. If he is attacked for having a Muslim name or being Kenyan; or if someone makes up a box of waffles with Obama on it looking like Aunt Jemimah; or someone makes an Obama T-shirt with a monkey on it; THAT's racist. And being racist, you insult African Americans in general.

13. Well then you must be soooo upset with the republicans who are lam blasting us with those very thing...
how she is a great mother, a cute gal, etc, etc and should not be picked on because she is a woman and can't seem to take it...if they didn't wish to discuss her gender than they should not continue to use that aspect to garner support...I tell you what, when they decide to quit touting her children about like prize wool being sold at an auction, perhaps the rest of the country will forget she is a female...

16. Palin the exploiter
Yes. Why is Sarah running as a "MOM"? And then she doesn't want anyone to mention her mother status.

Imagine if the male candidates ran as "Dads".

It certainly doesn't appear that Palin plans to sacrifice any extra time, or time at all for her newest child who has disabilities. Just four months into this world and mom has little time for this little one.

17. If you watch or read any news at all
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 07:43 PM by Balderdash
it is clear that part of the bounce that McCain/Palin have enjoyed is because of a backlash from the blatant sexism from the left and the MSM. There are plenty of Democrats and Independents that are women and "hockey moms" that we are pissing off with our thoughtless fucking sexism. Attack Palin on the issues, leave her gender and her after school activities at the door.

19. I don't agree, not at all, and it is not the campaign who are touting her sex, you can't blame them.
And lets be honest here, I mean if we can, she "IS A FEMALE" and like it or not, though I for one feel both should be treated equaly in the work place, it just does NOT occur, perhaps in another one hundred years maybe more considering that even though segretation occurred, many still desire such never happened..far too many...we can pretend her being a female means nothing but it would be a pretense because far too many voters simply see her gender, I'm not saying its right, I am just saying its our reality.

15. On the 'hockey mom' thing
It's clear that McCain is using division to gather votes.

Where does he appear, but at events that are mainly all-White,
Sturgeon, Nascar, little shops in the middle of nowhere with
no minorities.

I believe Palin is a calculated pick in an appeal to that
division. She governs (supposedly) a state with few minorities
with exception to the indigenous people.

Her husband races snowmobiles. Her daughter's baby's daddy is
an admitted redneck. And Sarah is a "hockey mom" One
of the few sports that is mainly White.

My apologies to those involved in these activities and places
who are not bigots. But it is clear to me that McCain is
appealing to the bigot vote. He is that low.

Which is another reason why we need to vote for Obama. He
chooses to include all people and his crowds reflect that.

Take a look at McCain and Palin's crowds. They do not
represent America. It's sick.

This isn't that amazing. Any involved parent does stuff like this. Fine for the kids, but I don't put it on my annual performance review.
