Biden Tightens Attacks, Paints McCain as Out Of Touch
http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/09/14/biden-tightens-attacks-paints-mccain-as-out-of-touch/

CHARLOTTE, NC — In his first public appearance since 9-11, Joe Biden unveiled a forceful, tightened stump speech attacking McCain for being out of touch with middle class Americans.

“Just the other day, Senator McCain confessed — and I quote -–”it’s easy for me to go to Washington and, frankly, be divorced somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges of the American people.” End of quote. Yo!” Biden said, pausing as the crowd laughed. “I couldn’t have put it better myself.”

Biden has been known to speak for an hour, jumping topic to topic with little regard for coherence. But today’s speech was a taut 32 minutes, focused solely on making the case for Obama and tearing apart the GOP and the Republican ticket.

On the GOP’s economic success, Biden said “I love these Republicans calling themselves good business men. Give me a break. Give me a break. We left these guys, we left these guys a $232 billion surplus, and they turned it into a $400 billion deficit this year. Business men? Any one of you would be bankrupt!

On McCain’s policies, Biden said “he wants to continue the trend of this administration. I refer to them as the know-nothings of the 21st century. These guys don’t know the facts. Don’t confuse them with facts.”

“It’s like that old saying about the Texan, that said I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like. These guys don’t know much about much, but they’re sure certain what they know about, they’re right about.”

And just the mention of Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin as part of a riff on jobs brought a chorus of loud boos down from the crowd. Unlike when the crowd booed his “good friend” John McCain, Biden did nothing to stop them.

It wasn’t just the candidate getting digs in at the McCain campaign. In an email to reporters noting that the crowd in the high school gym was 1,100 strong, Biden spokesman David Wade borrowed a phrase from his boss - saying “unlike the McCain-Palin campaign truthy crowd counts, this is not hyperbole.

The Delaware(sic) is set to deliver a new, meaty assault on McCain’s foreign policy tomorrow at a speech in Michigan — part of a renewed effort to use Biden as an attack dog. But not everything was an attack in Charlotte today; telling the story of his granddaughters’ sleepover with Obama’s children on the second day of the Democratic National Convention, BIden presented a somewhat unique view of what the American people are looking for in this election.

“I view that as a metaphor, a metaphor for what the country is looking for,” he said. “They’re looking for a sleepover with people they like.”
