Rove says McCain ads "went too far" !!!!!
Ok, you know that you're a horrendous evil, sleazy lying sack of mush--when Karl
Rove takes time off from his criminal activities--to say that your political ads have "gone too
far" that your statements are "beyond the 100 percent truth test."

LOLOLOL!!!!!!!

Crank up the Obama copywriters, I think we've found the fodder for our next ad, "Slimiest
Campaigner in History calls McCain a liar!"

5. In the back of my mind, I can't help but wonder if that is the case.

I hope, hope, that it is just him expressing his honest opinion about these matters (he may have no scruples, but he did help "win" two presidential elections); but, it is Karl Rove...

7. Rove
The use of the word honest and Rove in the same story, let alone the same sentence is totally wrong.

8. Here's another in that line:
Republicans fault both campaigns for negative ads

WASHINGTON - Leading Republicans on Sunday faulted both presidential campaigns for the increasingly negative tone of their advertising, suggesting the bitter attacks undermine John McCain and Barack Obama's credibility with voters and could backfire.

"Both campaigns are making a mistake, and that is they are taking whatever their attacks are and going one step too far," said former White House political adviser Karl Rove. "They don't need to attack each other in this way."

"There ought to be an adult who says, 'Do we really need to go that far in this ad? Don't we make our point and won't we get broader acceptance and deny the opposition an opportunity to attack us if we don't include that one little last tweak in the ad?'"

13. I think I figured out why Rove said this, why it makes political sense.
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 02:44 AM by Levgreee
The McCain campaign was going too negative with it's ads. They were flailing desperately and were going to hurt themselves.

Now, one could say that Rove should have simply told the McCain campaign in private about his concerns.

However, by making the comment publicly, he helps get Republicans on the same page again, because if he had told McCain privately, some surrogates would have defended the negativity, while others would have moved away from it or even denounced it if pushed.

If it was discovered that Rove denounced the negativity privately, it would have seemed more controversial.

Now with Rove stating this, and placing the blame on both Obama and McCain, this will not become a topic of large debate because the Republicans will all say that yeah, McCain and Obama went too far, and it's time to move on.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he counseled with the McCain campaign before settling on making this public comment.

Although this soundbite can be used by the Obama campaign... I wonder if it will help? I think Rove figured it wouldn't, but he might be wrong.
