Since the Republican convention last month, female vice-presidential candidate has sucked all the air from the universe.
Every news cycle, every media outlet, every conversation is centered around some aspect of this person. I've stopped watching television, because every 'current' outlet is simply a space that raves about how McCain's choice was a 'game changer.' Even the vapid talk show circuit is 'a-buzz.' I spent the weekend watching TCM to get away from the inane conversation. I couldn't read my Sunday papers. Magazines are ablaze with this person's photos, this person's life, this person's blah-blah-blah. What is this revealing to us?
That we are being manipulated, re-programmed, brainwashed, and used up. This person is not worth our time, our energy, our precious words, our space. Yet the evil of our opposition knows all the tricks to keep the people manipulated beyond any stretch of the imagination. And it seems to be working. No matter if the tone is favorable, or less so, any focus on this subject is still domination of the conversation, and it bodes ill for us.
Although when this melee first begain, I felt drawn into it, I've pulled away from DU for a while because I felt pulled down into the whirlpool.
No more. We must stop this obsession now. It's up to us now.. If the media must continue this constant flailing of certain individuals, we must not. We must make a strong effort to stay focused on what is vital to us and the future of our country. Don't post comments or articles on whatever the opposition vice presidential candidate is saying, doing, proposing, etc. No more comments about this individual, even if they are negative.
We must put our positive energy toward one thing and one thing only: Stop being driven by outside forces that will destroy our country; stop falling for stupid rumors and the media 'baiting' that swirls us into despair. We must be about changing the narrative that the media is driving, and changing it one person at a time.
If you hear someone either disparaging SEnator Obama, challenge them in a civil way. Know your facts about his record (which they love to trash), and about his proposals (most know nothing), and don't allow them to continue the racist tone.
If you hear someone 'in love' with the republican vice-presidential candidate, don't smear her personal life or anything personal, but challenge them with the facts about her record, her lack of qualifications, and her protection from the questions and curiosity of the public.
And let's get energy behind what we should be about: the election of Senator Barack Obama. WE should post anything we can about Senator Obama and Senator Biden.
Post comments about his speeches; post photos of rallies; post your thoughts on how his proposals benefit the country. If those thugs think they can control the media and message, we need to show them that WE have the power to turn things around, one word at a time, one photo at a time, one person at a time.
And let's send that individual back to where she came from. And send the republican presidential candidate to the Shady Rest Nursing Home.
(I purposely did not mention the opposition by name. They are not worth posting.. the names are meaningless...)
